Just read a little of Lovecraft myth, it's quite good and will make you enjoy Nyarko-san more for all thoses winks to the original setting made by Lovecraft a hundred years ago ;o) .

or you will hate it for turning awesome dark gods of madness and evil into lifeless trope chars.

they are quite a few light novel that use lovecraft mythology as a base, one is even about a fluffy love story full of shojo tropes of a tsundere lovecraftian monster (I don't remember which one) and a clumsy human maid...

So Nyarko-san isn't the worst of them, as they gift some goons with quite obscure names of monsters from Derleth novels ;o) . At least they know their stuff...
