Why is it, that the grammar and translation quality in many novels nose dive after 40 chapters?

Am I the only one who falls in love with a novel but when re-reading a few years down the line and it fails to live up to your memory of it?
When a secondary romance ovetakes the main romance halfway through the novel and theres even 200 chapters of an extra story at the end (ᗒᗣᗕ)
