However, this peaceful world was suddenly “overwritten” in front of a young soldier named Kai. In the rewritten world, Kai saw a scene where humans lost the tribal wars and were driven to the verge of extinction because of the absence of hero Sid. Here dragons and demons dominate the earth, and Kai's existence has been forgotten by all human beings. However, after encountering the mysterious girl Rinne, Kai decides to break this rewritten destiny. In a world without heroes, he inherits the hero’s sword and martial arts to challenge the mighty enemy races who reign supreme. Why It Should Get Picked Up: This is a very well-written Isekai with a very dark and unusual setting. 1. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that mixes sci-fi and fantasy; think 'Reign of Fire' but with fantasy races like elves, demons, spirits etc. besides dragons. There's some great world building in terms of the history behind all this and how the technological stuff mixes with the magical. 2. The MC and his friends are very much the underdogs and never become overpowered. Although the MC has a powerful weapon, he still barely scrapes through his battles and his people's situation only improves slightly: That's how strong and numerous their enemies are. Humanity has already lost the war and the only way to save them is by literally overwriting this new reality. 3. The overarching plot always drives the narrative and the mystery behind the MC's appearance and the fate of the world is only unraveled gradually. The novel is complete at 9 volumes; the translations till now are up to the middle of the 5th.
