A lot of what you're describing are common tropes in Japanese media and Chinese fantasy novels. You could try reading Western fantasy novels as a break... (of which, I would personally recommend "The Curse of Chalion" by Lois McMaster Bujold as the ultimate antithesis to everything you've complained about.) If you're set on East Asian media and internet novels, however, perhaps the following might suit you: - A Step into the Past - Seiun wo Kakeru - Ze Tian Ji As for anime, try Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon).

TL;DR!!! just skimmed through. In other words you just want recommendations instead of 'other request'... Well, quality is hard to find and novels that I enjoyed as much as ISSTH are even scarcer. Some of those I enjoyed the most would be TDG, Xian Ni(as far as I've read), OEM, TGR, ATG(except all the drama with the princess, with Chu Yuechan, Burning Heaven Clan, Divine Phoenix people, etc.), Perfect World(except the part where MC sees his past).
