Frankly speaking, a large goal for humanity is impossible to obtain since we are all too divided. Meaning everyone will seek their individual goals. However we will end up with an AI society since true AI is perhaps the most proximate of all the technologies to coming into existence. When true AI comes into existence the world will suffer from mass unemployment as the AI can cheaply and much more effectively take the roles that millions of humans used to play in the global economy. The world will destabilize as a result causing all kinds of mayhem. Thus, in my opinion the best goal humanity can have for itself at this point in time is to cement peace among nations so that the "rise of AI" doesn't end up as an extinction level event.
Impossible. I think it is impossible for humanity to progress in a single whole package. Humans will branches in many different route. Some will remain pure human while others go for genetic modified, digital version, human 2.0, cyborg, demi-human, sub-human, advance-human and who know others branch. Even those who remain pure human will go on separate ideals and even have infighting and wars among themselves.
I think humanity should start by being understanding. I know that solving global economical,resource,population and environmental crisis is the determining fact in preserving the planet. But to preserve humanity as a whole a understanding has to be reached. Because arguments are preventing humanity from acting effectively as a whole. If only we can all be respective of each other opinions and try to understand the other party do we progress as a whole. But instead we sometimes stubbornly insist on a single viewpoint without considering other possibilities. While it is not possible for us to be in complete harmony, but a degree of acceptance for the other party's viewpoint should be developed.
