Edit: I just realised that "ㅋ" doesn't show in the title on the NU page (latest topic)

I'm not sure if it's just on Wuxiaworld, but as I've been reading more KR novels there recently I've noticed that in every KR novel ㅋ is left untranslated...

Instead of saying hahaha or kekeke it's just a bunch of ㅋㅋㅋ, and it's seriously weird imo.

I've read enough asian novels so I'm not unfamiliar with transliterations like all the hyung-nim, ahjussi, ssi and what have you (and obviously JP & CN transliteration as well), but I've never before seen something like this where it's just left as is...

I mean it would be weird as hell if some translator decided that some character is hard to translate or the meaning it gets across is wrong etc. and so they just leave it? Like eh...

I know it's a "k" sound and it's used for laughter, but every time I see ㅋ I just have to stop and think for a moment which is quite jarring imo. I really don't get the point of this kind of decision.

So go ahead and discuss, share some thoughts on the matter, maybe someone know what the point of doing this is or so...

Maybe the translators thought that it was kaomoji :hmm:

I prefer the idea of translating it as "haha" rather than "keke". I feel like one is useful for a casual laugh, the "keke" is more of a sinister or creepy laugh. In that respect, use your own judgement on which character is 'laughing' and translate or transliterate as appropriate so it feels and flows more smoothly.

Maybe he meant the translator does not have enough motivation(money) to translate the symbol xD

I prefer kekeke if not Kieuk Kieuk Kieuk. It feels more true to the korean origin. Also because of ㅋㅋㅋ is my fav song by Kiha and the faces, which i am low-key recommending you to listen to. :D

You're right, it really does sound like kieuk, at least in this song you mentioned. (0:55)

    No idea.
I've noticed that if there are a bunch of them in a row, googletranslate leaves them untranslated. That's the only thing I could think of related to this.
