Why It Should Get Picked Up: It's a fairly popular xianxia on qidian and I've read over 120 chapters in Chinese and felt that the story would be well received by English readers. All the characters are well fleshed out--no typical arrogant murdering MC or senseless low IQ villians--reminds me of Ze Tian Ji (Way of Choices) in a lot of ways. The story starts off rather slow cultivation wise but picks up real quick. I would translate the story myself but I don't have the time.
    Description (translated from official summary):

Mountains, water, stones, flowers, grass, trees, wood, sun, moon, stars...all of the things in the universe are sources of power.

This strange and inexplicable world possessed all the classics and masterpieces of literature from the previous world, but has a new name, Dao Scripture! It actually turns out that you can obtain power from reading? Fangzheng was very confused; am I not looking at "Tao Te Ching," "Qi Men Dun Jia," and "The Analects of Confucius"..."The Golden Lotus," and "Romance of the West Chamber"?

Using the Dao Scripture as the foundation, grasp the Dao of myriad things, and open the door to becoming a God!

I've also translated the first chapter:

    Chapter 1 Fire Feather Chicken

In the hood of misty fog, these eternal clouds, enveloping the Blue Ridge Mountains, was a small mountain village made of stones. As the sun began to rise, pale golden sunlight fell from the sky and spilled on a four-door little courtyard in the small village, appearing to drape the little house in a veil-like cloud dress…

“God damn it! Who’s the god damn thief that stole my fire feather chicken!”

An untimely shriek broke the quiet tranquility of the morning in the little courtyard, alarming the little golden crown birds on the ancient trees in the courtyard.

    Fire feather chicken?

    It’s just a chicken!

Fang Zhengzhi slightly curled his lips as he turned the wooden spit on which a sweet smelling fire feather chicken is skewered. After taking a glance over at the clear river water to his side, he carefully took out a yellow paper pouch from his bosom and slowly opened it to expose a mix of red, white, and ash-colored powder.

This is the good stuff! The villagers don’t pay particular attention to the food they eat and don’t use much seasoning besides oil and salt. Therefore, Fang Zhengzhi was left with no choice but to risk his life to taste all kinds of grass and flora to procure the barbecue “seasoning!”

Eating…is one of life’s greatest pleasures! But he came to this ghastly place where every day was nothing but plain bread and vegetables—there wasn’t even any steamed buns to eat.

In order to be able to continue to grow and develop well, Fang Zhengzhi felt the need to add a little meat to his diet! A twenty years old mind stuck inside a six years old body made him feel somewhat unbearable.

Smelling the strong meat aroma, Fang Zhengzhi struggled to swallow his saliva. He raised his head to look up at the sky already lit up by the rising morning sun, revealing a faintly discernible look of contemplation on his young and tender face.

As a researcher specializing in ancient history and literature, the biggest benefit was being able to read both ancient and modern books extensively—mastering classical literature, astronomy, geography, astrology, and even dabbling in divinatory trigrams and ancient herbal medicine.

But…all of it is completely useless.

In his past life, Fang Zhengzhi was struggling with unemployment, and, after experiencing countless hardship, he felt that if he was sent back into ancient times, he could leap over the dragon’s gate. With his knowledge of ancient literature, he could achieve scholarly honor passing the imperial examination right?

Who would have thought...that after arriving in this world for almost a month, he learned that there is no imperial examinations. What eight-part essay? What Four Books and Five Classics? They are completely nonexistent! This is a different world, and even the chicken are not the same.

Fire feather chicken? Isn’t there just more long, red feathers on the tail? Even if the egg you’re born from is red, it’s still just a chicken!

Fang Zhengzhi greedy breathed in the barbecue aroma and started to season the fire feather chicken, sprinkling “pepper,” and then adding “cumin,” “honey”…

    “You’re the little chicken thief!”

The delicate voice made Fang Zhengzhi jumped to his feet and his forehead to break out into cold sweat. Caught red-handed, anyone can see that this isn’t going to turn out well.

    What to do?

With his little arms and short legs, running away is basically impossible, let along fighting. When Fang Zhengzhi thought up to here, he turned his head with an embarrassed look on his face.

He just wanted to see who caught him.

After enduring the punishment to come, he could at least look for an opportunity for revenge, like taking a stone to smash the windows to her home or leave a few nice little turds at her home and so on…

With a glance, Fang Zhengzhi’s eyes brightened.

He was unfamiliar with the person in front of him—at least he never seen her before—but the most important thing is that she was just a little girl no older than he was. About five years old, her white and tender face was exquisite like a porcelain doll and she was wearing a small silk skirt embroidered with three white flowers, crowned with dark green pearl flowers on her head, and a pair of red leather boots on her feet.

Even at a small age, he could already see a kind of transcendent refinement temperament in her and knew that her beauty would absolutely cause the downfall of countries in the future.

It’s just that...what the hell is with her standing there with both her hands were placed at her hips and that condescending smirk on her face?

This put Fang Zhengzhi in a bad mood. Where did this little fart come from? Dressed up like some young lady, how did a precious daughter like her end up on this poor and remote mountain?

The most important thing is that she actually dares to despise him?

Although he is a little fart himself, at least he has the mind of a twenty years old. To say nothing of anything else, outsmarting her should not be a problem.

“Scram you smelly little girl! This is my family’s chicken!” Fan Zhengzhi said impatiently as he pointed to the fragrant fire feather chicken roasting before him.

“Little thief, who are you calling a smelly little girl?” The smile on the little girl’s face froze and her little hands balled up into fists.

Fang Zhengzhi saw the little girl’s clenched fists.

Oh…You want to fight, do you?

Fang Zhengzhi sneered. He may not have much experience in this area in his previous life, but it would be a joke if he couldn’t even cope with a five years old girl.

“If you don’t bugger off, see if I don’t beat you up!” Fang Zhengzhi thought he had to let the little girl see his ferocious side so he clenched his teeth and glared with wide opened eyes.

Unfortunately, paired with his baby face, it looked no different than him pulling a face.

“Beat me up?! Very well...I, Chi Gu Yan, accept the challenge. I want to compare notes and experience your best moves!” When the little girl heard Fang Zhengzhi’s words, she was surprised for a moment before revealing an intense expression of excitement on her rosy little face.

“Huh?” Fang Zhengzhi was stunned. In a normal situation, wasn’t the little girl supposed to cry in fright and then turning around to run away?

What’s all this about best moves?

    Uh…

Fang Zhengzhi didn’t have time to understand before he felt a figure quickly rushing toward him followed by a gust of wind that blew past his ears and caused his hair to fly about.

What the hell? Almost subconsciously, Fang Zhengzhi moved his ass away from the stone he was sitting on and rolled to his side...

    “Boom!”

A loud noise resounded from behind.

When Fang Zhengzhi turned his head, his eyes very nearly popped out from his head.

The large blue rock he was originally sitting on now has cracks spreading from a large hole in the middle of it. The little girl’s tender white fists was hanging in the air on top of the hole.

    “Holy...shit!”

Fang Zhengzhi was stupefied at this moment.

What could be more shocking than seeing a five years old little girl pulverizing a large blue rock? The most important point is that the little girl’s expression still showed that she wished to continue and her little fists were not red at all.

Violent little girl? Or an Immortal reincarnated?

Fang Zhengzhi’s mind was completely blown, his reality turned upside down. Isn’t this a little too ridiculous? There is no such person in the village—all the villagers work from dawn to dusk with nothing out of the ordinary. At most, the adults would organize a hunting party and head into the mountains.

The only things that stood out from his previous world is that everyone is more robust in comparison and the beasts on the mountain are also strange and fantastic, but isn’t this quite normal for a non-scientific society?

All along, Fang Zhengzhi thought that he lived in a peaceful age…

At this moment, he felt that his view of the world has been overturned, but this wasn’t what frightened him the most. What frightened him the most was the way the little girl is looking at him. It was almost as if she was staring at a plaything in her hands, full of contempt.

    Again? No thank you...

Since he’s no match, what’s to be done?

    Run!

A five years old little girl probably wouldn’t be too smart, but this is also the age when children don’t really consider the consequence of their actions. Open dialogue with this five years old to not overdo things? Fang Zhengzhi felt this isn’t very sensible.

Without any notice, he took to his heels and ran. Not sparing a thought for the fire feather chicken, Fang Zhengzhi could only pray that his short little legs could run a little faster...

“Humph! Useless little chicken thief!” Miraculously, the little girl did not chase after Fang Zhengzhi, but turned her attention to the rich and sweet smelling fire feather chicken roasting on the spit.

“The blue mountains never change the green waters flow on forever. I will come back!” Fang Zhengzhi felt that he couldn’t lose too much prestige.

Even if he’s running away, he must do so with dignity and self-respect. He had to leave behind enough suspense so that the opposite party would have to remain vigilant and stay in place.

The little girl no longer paid any attention to Fang Zhengzhi as her big watery eyes stared at the flickering fire roasting the fire feather chicken in front of her.

In the end, the little girl couldn’t help but lean over and sniff with her nose before taking a big bite out of one of the fire feather chicken’s wing. The little girl’s face immediately lit up in a pleasant surprise as the taste in her mouth made her close her eyes in dreamy satisfaction.

    But then...Fang Zhengzhi returned.

Appearing behind the little girl like a gust of wind, a touch of smile appeared on his small mouth as he carefully raised his short little leg!

Aiming at the little girl’s butt...and then viciously...kicked!

With her butt stuck out behind her and an infatuated expression on her face as she reached out for the fire feather chicken, how could the little girl react in time?

The little girl stumbled forward for five steps from the kick and then fell face first into the clear river.

“Today’s weather is really good! Bright sunshine with birdsong and fragrant flowers filling the air...the most important thing is it’s perfect for...bathing!” Fang Zhengzhi snatched the fire feather chicken, turned around, and quickly made his escape.

“Little thief, my chicken!” The little girl’s voice came from the river.

“Keep dreaming, this is my chicken!” Fang Zhengzhi didn’t even turn around as he shot down the little girl.

“Hateful!” The little girl jumped out from the river like an agile snow leopard, her big eyes showing traces of misting up, uncertain whether it is river water or tears...

    Rumbling…

    “Hyah!”

Orderly yet loud sounds came ever closer from the distance.

“Oh my God! Y-Young Lady, are you alright?” A maid about thirteen or fifteen years old, wearing a cheongsam and a silver hairpin on her head, cried out in alarm before she ran over really fast.

Behind the girl, there was a cloud of dust in the air left behind by a troop of soldiers numbering approximately three hundred men dressed in bright armor on which a blood red triangular emblem was emblazoned on their chest indicating their noble status. Everyone was riding on top of a snow dragon horse.

This breed of horse had a naturally fierce temperament, its stature even taller than typical horses, covered from head to leg in a fine coat of black hair and their feet covered in white scale, rumored to possess true dragon bloodline from antiquity.

Traveling in front of the soldiers was a forty year old man of strong stature with suntanned facial features wearing a cloud patterned black armor.

Just one look was enough for people to feel a suffocating aura as his body is covered in the trace scent of blood of a battle-tested man.

“Subordinate deserves death!” The tall man dismounted with ease, directly kneeling with one knee on the ground as he assumed an exceptionally deferential attitude. At the same time, his eagle-like eyes swept the river and still burning barbecue pit as weell as the various colored powders in small paper pouches.

“That direction...leads to where?” The little girl hardly spared a glance at the girl and tall man, pointing in the direction Fang Zhengzhi escaped toward.

“Young Lady, it’s South Mountain Village!” The tall man took no time to think before replying in a deep voice.

“South Mountain Village? Good. We will go to South Mountain Village.” The little girl answered in a light voice and then walked toward the large palanquin covered in green jade behind the tall man.

“Young Lady, we still have many cities to go to for our trip this time. For a small village like South Mountain Village...” She wanted to remind the little girl of their goal when she heard her request, but closed her mouth after seeing the little girl’s expression.

“Whether it’s Grand Dao or Minor Dao, they all have their worthwhile aspects. The myriad things in existence all lead to the Dao!” The little girl’s vision swept over the maid as she jumped and flew into the palanquin.

In the split second that the little girl jumped, all the water on her body froze in place as countless droplets and only fell down to the ground once the little girl arrived in the palanquin.

“Young Lady’s a person of outstanding talent and great knowledge, this general is far inferior!” Seeing the puddle of river water left on the ground, the tall man immediately kneel on both knees, his face one of deep respect.

Only the maid had a look of confusion as she silently mouthed the words that the little girl just said. Grand Dao, Minor Dao...what does it have to do with the myriad things in existence? And what does this have to do with going to South Mountain Village?

Although puzzled, the maid still knew what she should say right now.

“Young Lady’s intelligence surpasses all others! Reading a hundred books by three years of age and understood right and wrong in the world. Probably no one dares to bully Young Lady nowadays!” Speaking of her Young Lady’s achievements, a proud expression unconsciously appeared on the maid’s face.

However, the body of the little girl who just stepped into the palanquin trembled.

No one dares to bully me?

“Yue’er, there’s no need for you to come on the palanquin. Walk!”

“Ah?! Walk?!” The maid’s face was bitter as she looked down at the crooked road leading to South Mountain Village, the original pride was suddenly replaced by pain.

“May I ask Young Lady if there is any special reason for going to South Mountain Village this time?” The tall man stood up, his eyes looking at the wooden spit next to the river.

“Test one more child.” The little girl’s voice came from within the large palanquin.

“Test? What should the age restriction be?”

    “Yes...six to eight years old.”

    “Yes!
