ah that group with profit dividend~ that was funny~
10% for the cost of wire transfer was mentioned by Webnovel Official.
basically is 30:30:30. 10% will be the cost of wire transfer.
I don't know what the cost of a wire transfer would be since I don't wire money to translators and authors. I bet most people don't know either. If you think 10% for wire transfer is too high and took objection to it, what is the normal cost of a wire transfer?
For example, the translator earns $300 and the author earns $300. What would it cost to transfer this money to the fan translator and to the author?
I look it up on Google "cost of a wire transfer" I got this
https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/wire-transfer-fees#:~:text=fees by bank-,Wire transfer fees are generally between $25 and $30 for, funds, but some banks do.
Here's another source:
Average wire transfer costs
Domestic outgoing wire transfer $27 average
Domestic incoming wire transfer $15 average
International outgoing wire transfer $45 average
International incoming wire transfer $15 average
p.s. To all that support this suggestion of mine to get dropped novels translate again, I want to thank you.
Also, a BIG THANK to any future fan translators who are willing to pick up the dropped novels and help both the author and the readers.
If the average wire transfer cost is $20 (let's say), then the only way it's 10% of your income is if your income is deliberately given in $200 blocks. That is, every time the novel earns you exactly $200, you get paid. ... And that should absolutely be negotiable, because holy shit is it a waste of money. To be clear, whether you're being paid $200 or $10,000, the wire transfer fee is still a flat rate - $20. If you were paid $10,000 in $200 chunks, you'd lose $1,000 in nothing but wire transfer fees! Money just going up in smoke for no good reason. When instead of $1,000, you could have paid.. $20. Absolutely unacceptable.
And this is all ignoring the fact that there are plenty of cheaper and even absolutely free ways to transfer money.
Well, duh, trust is everything. If you're given a choice to work at black company and a normal Company, one would inevitably choose normal company. Nothing more or less. And yeah , webnovel can't be trusted even more because recently there was a drama of Chinese authors rights to their novels and the unfair contracts. Moreso reason to not go their. Just go for novels from other publishers except qidian. They're not that DMCAish.
Abandon all hope ye who enter here~
What dropped novels would you like to see translate? (maybe a potential/future fan translator will check it out)
Isn't there plenty of dropped ls up for those Fan TLers to choose from and see which they'd like to translate?
if only they were more open to negotiation but it seems like it's either their way or the highway when i talked to them
besides there is a big difference between translating for free out of hobby and translating for WN, especially if they make you sign a contract.
if it's anything like the author's contract, you could potentially be bankrupted for such a pathetic sum of money (if you even get any + remember that the novels up for grabs here are already tested and found to be unprofitable by WN)
what authors signed by Webnovel are potentially be bankrupted because of the author's contract?
From what I know, there are many English Original Authors on Webnovel who are making a lot of money from the paid purchase.
The hard part is the writing a good web novel. Is the writing good enough to get a lot of people to pay for it....
(Collect Ranking = # of readers who add the novels to their library)
Collect Ranking (Total, Original, Female Lead)
Collect Ranking (Total, Original, Male Lead)
that's why I stated that the translator is doing it for love and not for money.
look at the contract penalties for breaches. look at the obligations given by the contract
WN WANTS the terms to be in the contract for a reason.
and they refuses to negotiate on any of the contract terms
also looking at your register date and amount of posts, you're obviously from WN. pls go post on WN. added to ignore list
why are you posting the links to the amount of collections each novel has? WN has never paid out based on how many collections your novel has
also if anything, the chinese authors protested against a contract that is similar to what WN has and theirs was changed. however the contract for WN is not similar to what the CN authors have.
Dunno about you but it's kinda annoying that every time webnovel is the topic there is a bunch of fresh registered acc spitting the same pre-written bs in the support of said platform... and not just threads like this where the main topic is webnovel but basically everywhere when someone brings them up...
This was a royal waste of time. The email address with their contact whom I spoke to went dead.
Even most of the email addresses on webnovel.com are no longer active.
Looks like a paper company haha
What's a paper company?
A shell company, like the ones who only exist on the legal papers, but with no employees/office/activities or the likes
Haha such a funny thread.
People have successfully signed contracts with Zhulang , Hongyiu and Zongheng.
Qidian is not the end all be all.
I will contact other companies
I heard webnovel has very bad reputation for both author and translator. Are they really bad? Are they publishing stories without giving benefits?
one of qidian authors spoke out about this when qidian tried to push the contract that was protested against.
go look for it and read it. that author basically said something like there is a site where you can read the chapters for free legally but i cant remember
As you probably know, Webnovel, the Qidian western foothold, is recruiting Fan Translators for dropped projects, with a retribution of 30% revenue share. An insult to the fan-translators scene and another trick for the chinese giant to gain control of the web novels market, strangling authors, readers and translation groups at the same time. This struggle would be completely unnecessary if instead of following the Qidian evil ways, Scribblehub would start featuring translations as well as original content and with Novelupdates would start implement FanTranslation Groups pages, with integrated Patreon support, and let them compete in the translations quality and speed of the same novels. This worked fine for legal sites like Rakuten VIKI (Drama licenses are paid, but translations are made by fansub groups for free), because there are huge amount of people waiting to help translating. They just need their work to be recognized under a fangroup name, to be able to compete fairly and to have their own page on NU or SU to be able to collect users feedbacks. It is psychology 101 guys...
But if it was dropped, that means no one wants it because it's probably not profitable.
