Discussion A Cold MC doesn't mean a strong MC

This goes for both FLs and MLs. Usually when the author has a character like that everyones prasing them as strong and well written. When in fact they are 2 feet away from being psychopaths. Why do people think characters who are cold are strong and kindness as being weak? If a novels summary describes the MC as coldhearted I dont bother to read it And it's even worse when for the first 100 chapters the MC is normal and then all of a sudden becomes a cold hearted bitch who tramples over everyone. If I wanted that id read mein kampf

Like MC sends the antagonists sister to being gang raped just cuase shes related to him and you'll have people going "Yaasss queeen"

Either extreme is irritating.

You don't want MC sending antagonists sister to gang raped just cause shes related to him, but you don't want MC fucking shit up completely just because they don't want to hurts someone feelings. Or they let baddies go instead of killing them because killing is bad and it later bites him in the ass.

I'm most fond of mc who can be an asshole or even do something against own conscience.

Tho Tanijrou's fluffy truck of kindness in Kimetsu no Yaiba somehow got to me too.

 

I do not like it that other people being rightious unconsciously. Just because their emotions were in a roller coaster ride.

 

Bad guys who do good or try to become good is better then good guys who become edgy all of a sudden

 

I gotta be honest, I don't like kind hearted MC, I don't like a serial killer either. My favorite MC is a smart one, knows when to be kind and when to be cold. I totally despise MC that goes out of his way to save someone for no reason, but I hate a guy who kills for pleasure too. It's all about a balance. No human being is 100% good or a 100% bad.

 

i hate mc who cant kill his enemy just like most jap novels and some chinese novels, the enemy is trying to kill you and yet youll show them kindness then theyll be back again and youll show kindness again that's just plain stupidity.. just like the saying 'kindness to enemy is cruelty to oneself'? was that it

 

It's not cold hearted MCs , it's SMART MCs that r powerful, cold hearted is just a trait Needed to survive in a Dog eat Dog World. There is a difference b/w psychopaths ( although u r using wrong term , the one u r looking for is sociopath ) and being cold hearted. Most Smart MCs r cold hearted because , WHO THE HELL WOULD STICK THEIR NOSE IN OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS WHEN U CAN BE KILLED ON A WHIM. Honestly MCs that do good for No good reason r idiots who only live because plot wants them to , in real life 8 out of 10 times , they would be deadp

 

Most cold hearted MCs are always ready to abandon anything just to achieve the thing that they want.. One of the example is fang yuan from reverend insanity

To be honest, I don't like kind hearted protags. I read a lot of jap novels and well... you get sick of it after a while. Not only is the protag (in most of them) fucking OP, but because he is kind hearted, there are quite a few scenes where it is just cringe, for example, I read Black Summoner (manga, mind you) and I dropped it when there was a scene where the protag said (I think) "We'll help you... because she's our family!" Don't get me wrong, a novel with a kind hearted protag can be good, but it all depends how the author does it, because if done poorly, it will just become a cringefest.

That's why I prefer cold hearted protags, because you at least get a guarantee that these types of scenes don't happen, but if he is cold hearted to the extreme, it can be bad. I'm currently reading a korean novel Second Life Ranker where the protag is cold hearted, however, it is not extreme like what theilikepie said with the antag's sister being raped.

Love is both strength and weakness. Cold ppl who rarely feel that, well, less hinderance?
