Recommendations a immortal that is not a asshole

So i'm looking for a xianxia story, you know, cultivation whatnots, where the mc is not a complete dick to everyone who only cares about people if it benefits him or her, so no warlock. What i'm looking for is a Xianxia where the mc cherishes his or her family, friends, and colleagues, but in return is ruthless to enemies and foes . Also, i would like the side characters (childhood friend, fellow comrade in same sect, etc) to be relevant to the story and not part of the background, you know stuff like fighting side by side or helping when in need of help sort of thing. What i'm looking for is essentially Coiling Dragon or Swallowed Star but with relevant side characters. Im ok with original fiction as well so go wild and give me the recommends!

Technically Chaotic Sword God fits the bill(Treats his allies and family well including the family of a deceased ally very well.)

 

As for your first desire, quite a few are actually good to friends/family, and ruthless to enemies I can give you quite a few. However the second part is a bit harder to deal with. Many the friends and side characters end up in the background rather quickly, mainly because the mc has some sort of ridiculous growth. However i would suggest Sovereign of the Three Realms, and Tales of Demons and Gods. Though any actual cultivation is mostly barely shown. Hinted at...but barely shown.

 

Long Live Summons' wife crew is fighting until the end of the novel.
SYWZ (idk the name) is basically about team fight after the tournament.

If you want side characters that are relevant and have fleshed out personalities and identities you should read http://www.novelupdates.com/series/world-of-cultivation/ there are a couple of side characters that are prominent from the get go but after the first arc you'll get a bunch of interesting characters with great development that are actually important (no lone wolf mc here) also has a great personality himself (sorta like weed from moonlight sculptor)

Instant Kill also has important side characters but they are not as well developed as World of Cultivation but both stories feature an emphasis on the necessity of group reliance/fights over the individual op lone wolf that you usually see in cultivation stories (not that the MCs don't have any op qualities or anything they are both pretty badass)

 

A Thought Through Eternity albeit this is a spoiler. The whole story paints him as selfish but he does have good morals

 

I think only SOTR fits your description. although the side character did change after an arc concludes.

on that note, Coiling Dragon's useful side character is only bebe and beirut though...his teammates only appear here and there a little after the church part

To be SOTR, you must be able to tolerate the people who were against you. You've to give them second or third chance, unless the cross the bottom line. You've to think of the big picture of the whole, not just around yourself.

That's the real sovereign.
