I had a long list of quotes from other forums, but it was getting lengthy, so here are the links to the maybe less than 40 comments total...

    TL;DR
I rewrote this like 5 times before finally realizing I couldn't say it any better than has already been said.

What if...this is solely to determine if a review is comprehensive? I wouldn't want 'unhelpful' reviews to be automatically hidden either.

Know what's the best way to sort the reviews? Yourself.

Nothing really address the issue or solve it in a good way or perfect way. I personally don't care. I filter it pretty efficient.

I've read both of those threads. I was hoping to get a more concise response, but okay. So here are the problems from what I understand:
    1. 5 stars being too imprecise
    2. Reviews are unhelpful (don't give enough information)
    3. Reviews can be misleading (wrong information)
    4. No way to sort reviews
    5. How should reviews be sorted/filtered?
The only thing I agree with actually being a solvable problem is #4 and #5, which are closely related. The rest are personal preference and subjective.

It will still be abused regardless unless you have control over troll voters and that still requires moderation. SOmeone mentioned on the prior thread that it wouldn't stop haters or fanboys to populate the voting. I would vote to be able to comment on the written review instead to have an open discourse about the review.

I believe readers are not dumb enough to fall for a one-liner review or a not-so-comprehensive review. If it's a pseudo-comprehensive review, the comments about that review can show it.

It would still be a "popular vote" though.

I think it would better just to respond to a review in your own review. If there's anything I hate, it's when someone's unpopular opinion gets attacked en masse. (Though I admit I sometimes fall into that trap myself.)

Since everyone is conflicted on what to do with the review system i propose we do away with it completely...

You mean a private conversation between a reviewer and the refuter? That could also work, but will the reviewer change his review from their conversation though? The only check and balances I could get from this process is that the refuter needs to create his own review to refute his findings about the review he's refuting making the process redundant. I do agree with what you said that if it's going to be an open discourse, they might be attacked.

why not just refute the points the other reviewer made in another review...

As I've said, it's redundant but could also work. What if someone also wants to refute his refute? The never ending refute, so I would rather stick to comments on it instead.

All I want out of this thread is a way to ensure there is the minimum amount of feedback within a review so that users have something to go by.

Yup, I do too. I wonder, should each review be allowed for comments? I'm sure there will be wars under it but also possibly clear up wars within the reviews (like A reviewed something, B refers to A, C refers to B and A, and so forth. It becomes a train...)
