Your friend handed you something to hold on to because she was going on a trip. Upon returning she asked for it back, but you said no. This could be considered stealing, but is it wrong??

(Gives you time to think of an answer before part two)

Your friend gave you her gun for safe keeping, and now that she has returned, she wants it back. The other day, she meet a guy who really ticked her off and now she wants to shoot him. You said no. This could be considered stealing, but is it wrong? (Assume possessing the gun is legal)

    Give me your thoughts below~

    Yes it is.

You shouldn't give it to her now, but kill the guy yourself and then return it. Thats true friendship.

It's bad in the two way, first is a real steal, but the second, if you keep a gun for your friend, you have a problem in fact~

Not a tricky question at all.
Keeping the gun is stealing ("evil"), but by doing so you prevent an even greater evil (someone getting murdered in cold blood), thus giving the gun back is the objectively worse choice.

    what you don't realize is:
    -there is no gun
-there is no thing to steal
    -there is no friend
    -the cake is a lie
-the world is anarchy and you either assert dominance of those around you or you die

Would definitely give gun back. Either they won't shoot him, only threatening him or something or they will shoot. In which case you can slowly absent yourself from the friendship. If they're the sort of person who is capable of shooting someone who really ticks them off then what do you think they'd do to you the moment they finally get their gun back or buy a new one?

    1) It would depend on a number of things for me to state an objective decision, but at this point it sounds unethical.
    2) My opinion is that returning the gun would be the unethical choice since returning the gun would allow the commission of a crime of a higher degree than you not returning the gun. You could even be charged with being an accessory since they told you why they wanted it back and you gave it to them for the specified reason of allowing them to shoot someone.

If you give her your gun then congratulation! Now the gun has your fingerprints, she framed that you stole the gun from her and shot the other guy dead!
So no way in hell am I gonna give it to her.

I've heard this moral dilemma before. Yes, you're obligated to give back the gun in the first case. However, your obligation is overridden in the second case. Your duty to your friend would also include not letting your friend become a murderer. This is better for you, the guy, and your friend.

Well, generically speaking, not giving back what your friend lent you is bad.

... But in those circumstances, keeping the gun is for the best. Maybe even throwing the gun away or something.

First case yes. It is wrong.
Second one yes to hold on to it is wrong. They're not your possession but you should as law abiding citizens to safekeep them until your friend do not show sign of trying to commit criminal activities. Under normal circumstances yes you need to return their possession. To use them without their permission or hold them is stealing.

You're saying it like it's outside of all reason. What if they're going on vacation and don't want to leave it in the house while they're renting it out?

I knew a guy who said stealing is wrong and would give the gun back regardless of the reason.

    Part 1: Yes, it's wrong.

Part 2: No, it's not wrong. You're being a good friend and a smart person.

Depends on wether you know she was gonna shoot someone or not.

The Law state that, in the knowledge of planned crime and not report it, is the same as the criminal accomplice.

That's why when someone one know was caught and the officer/detective asking him/her questions, wether they know or don't know, they choose to say 'don't know anything'
