First and foremost the system/benefits that brought by NU is really good so I don't see any reason to drop NU since with NU I could easily search for novels compared to the olden days. And the reading list too

    it's for the nuffies

I drop QI before it have the chance to drop anything. Blocked QI from my front page. (Thanks to @Tony for the filters)

And honestly, QI is the one that is using NU for advertising their sites.
QI dumping NU only meens that QI wont have a fresh breeze of new readers coming from NU anymore.
Cause honestly, most of us here reading web novels comes to NU from otaku culture of either anime, manga, or other jp novel website. We wont have any idea that QI even exist if it werent for NU.

 There are translators who prefer not to be listed on NU. It doesn't harm them. It doesn't harm NU.

Bakaupdates in the past had torrent links.

Also you can hit anything with a DMCA, DMCA is simply a terrible law that has no validation put into it. You can pretty much DMCA anything with no proof.

The vast majority of translated works linked by NU are not considered legally 'legitimate', since no licensing exists.

Yep, pretty much. Bakaupdates folded damn fast under just a DMCA threat from a single publisher. Given the current players and environment, a legal threat by Qidian International, which is a US company, would be more likely, unfortunately. International courts have pretty thoroughly pissed on the 'freedom of linking': that mere links to content are not themselves infringement - and US courts have been getting pushed into the same roads by various bad precedents.
I have no clue if QI will pull that trigger, but NU still has to deal with a giant, glaring 'Please Kick Me' sign posted on it's legal rear end.

... Except the novels on webnovels.com ARE legitimate... so... You can't stop NU from linking to them.

It is just a conspiracy theory, don't mind it too much...

Qidian is the site that provides raws for a vast amount of Chinese Webnovels, and it has started going international... Some people have some crazy ideas that Qidian will try to overtake NU or to fight against NU after some time passes... Which is dumb, since NU and Qidian don't really compete, NU is a index while Qidian is a translator site, the relationship is of mutual benefit, not competition.

Even if Qidian wanted to go against NU, they would have no way of doing it anyway. So... Just a conspiracy theory, don't worry too much about it.

I meant QI would kill NU by 'forcing' them into blocking everything else except licensed works.

But its main competitors; WW, Volare, and GT(technically not competition but eh), are also legitimate. It'd only work on Qidian novels too, which isn't even all the Chinese novels, much less the whole market (CN, JP, KR.)
