After working with the other adventurers in the vicinity to clear out most of the cultists around them, Ryul decided to move onto a different area separately. He was not sure if he could handle any more strange situations like earlier - his mind was already at its limits due to the attack.

Before leaving, however, he did not forget to be prudent and rifled through and confiscated a few of the cultists' belongings. They didn't have much, even after going through several of their pouches. Altogether, it was probably worth around 4 big coppers. The cultists most likely splurged most of their money before the attack; similar to how mercenaries spent all their coin before going to war.

He did not get too far when he saw that there were many injured citizens all over the place. Ryul did not have the mana to heal them all, so he did the next best thing: he led the dozen or so injured townsfolk he came across in the direction of Ophelia's Temple, where he knows there should be plenty of healers that could help.

 

Once again, she woke to an unfamiliar ceiling.

"You seriously went overboard, didn't you? Kono baka." (Shiori)

Deja vu. The young orphanage owner was sitting beside the bed, looking extremely annoyed.

"Where is...Oh. How did I get here?"

As far as she was concerned, she remembered wading into the deep, killing in a frenzy, but then she blanked out and now she was in Shiori's orphanage.

"The incident's mostly over. Meanwhile, you had better rest up. Shiori's seen both human skin and patchwork, but not a combination of the two together...Your sensei was seriously worried, you know?" (Shiori)

"Wait, sensei's here?"

"Nope. Neither are Haruna and Natalia. The former is somewhere I don't know, the latter two are outside, helping out with the cleaning effort. Meanwhile, Shiori is making lunch for the children, so you better not think of getting off that bed until then. Nurse's orders." (Shiori)

"Okay then..."

 

As Alexander kept walking down the road with Phinimimilomimo on his shoulder, before he could answer her question the little fairy noticed the half-elf she'd met in the Church earlier.

"Ah, Fris!" She flew off Alexander's shoulder and flew up to the half-elf. "Church person, Fris!"

She waved her tiny - healed arms - at the half-elf energetically.

May looked over to see a tired ryu "ryu-ryu~ are you alright?" she hugged the tired scholarly man.

"do you need any help?"

 

"Oh, hello again." Ryul looked at the little fairy that had flown up to him.

It seemed to be the same one he saw at the Church before. She was lucky to have escaped before the building was half-destroyed.

Ryul then saw May again as she hugged him. Oh no. Well, at least there wasn't any weird scenarios occurring this time.

"I'm mostly fine. I'm just leading these folk here to the Temple to get some healing done." He replied to her concern.

"You guys should go on ahead. I'll take care of this group." Ryul addressed their small party and continued moving down the road by himself.

Curious as to who the half-elf was, Phinimimilomimo flew next to May - who she had seen hugging him - and asked:
"Who is he, Fris? Is he someone you know, Fris?"

May hugged the little fairy with a finger lightly.

After having dealt with the cultists that where nearby earlier in the night making the area quite safe. it seems someone had decided to steal from one of the houses near the orphanage, so Kathicia decided to teach him a lesson! The golem that had appeared was definitely not something which Kathicia could deal with at all so she had not made any move to help with it's destruction at all! "Ahh well the children are going to be safe it seems now that these cultists guys are basically routed! It's not like any of the thieves will come here as otherwise I'm sure someone would hunt them to the ends of the world~."

After having moved to the building that the person had entered, via a window Kathicia hears them saying, "My precious things." Kathicia knocked on the door and says in her best granny voice. "Is there anybody home? I brought some cookies over for you to eat." The man quickly left out the window carrying some jewellery, so Kathicia swoops down and apprehends him, "Running from a granny that isn't very nice now is it mister." Kathicia then proceeds to throw him at a wall and recover the small bits of jewellery on him. "Hmmm now do I punish you myself or turn you in to the guards~." Kathicia yawns. "You are saved by my tiredness mister!" A Z made of blood appears in each of Kathicia's eyes.

After flying around holding the crook Kathicia finally finds a functioning guard post and drops him off there, hey guardsmen can you look after this thief, I feel he probably has some more jewellery on him I'm just to lazy to look for it~ so bye." Kathicia proceeds to leave the guardsmen to look after the case and returns back to the rooftop of the orphanage. A cultist reappears along the way but Kathicia quickly executes him for getting in the way of her having a nice and lovely nap!

Upon arriving at the orphanage Kathicia settles down on the rooftop after a quick survey of the area checking for anymore miscreants that might show up and disturb her rest however she doesn't find any. Okay time for a good long nap on this nice and lovely roof, the moment after Kathicia says this 4 pigeons show up and decide to sleep right next to Kathicia for absolutely no reason at all what so ever. Kathicia wraps the pigeons up to sleep with her and then a hawk lands and begins napping on her chest, "Excuse me what the hell why are you 5 sleeping on me!" Kathicia can't fall asleep due to the heavy birds on her and the fact that the children have started to be a little noisy on the inside of the orphanage, from the little bits that kathicia can here it appears to be hide and seek that they are playing. And one or two of the children are even playing eye spy to pass the time. Kathicia sighs whilst on the roof of the building and has a break for the period of time which the birds are sleeping on her.

A while later the birds finally move off of her body so she decides that she can finally have her own nap, some of the kids are still raising a little bit of a hulabaloo however that is likely to protect them at this point in time rather than harm them anymore due to the fact that the cultists have been routed and the thieves aren't really all that numerous and avoid houses that are populated. Kathicia notes another thief going for the same house as earlier, and repeats the process, in the end she ends up catching thieves there all the way until the people start returning to their houses near the orphanage and gets no sleep for the entire night!

 

"Oh, he's an adventurer, Fris?"

Seeing May trying to hug with her finger, Phinimimilomimo wrapped her tiny arms around it and nuzzled it*

May yawned "I'm going back to the tavern to sleep, does phi want to too!?"

 

Happy at the sound of resting in the tavern and meeting Bill - who she'd not seen for a few weeks - Phinimimilomimo nodded enthusiastically at May.

"Mm, Fris! I'd love that, Fris!"

Kathicia decides to leave the roof and heads off to the tavern after noting that nothing else is happening in the area. "Let me hope that I have more success sleeping in the taverns rafters than here~ Kids are loud after all!" Kathicia lazily makes her way over to the Tavern to have a nice long sleep.

 

Bill returned to Nagrand after his trip to visit some B-rank adventurer friends, living in Nyllia, and saw the mess that the town was in.

"...What happened here...?"

Seeing injured people all over the place, as well as buildings on the verge of collapse from fires that were spreading, he sighed to himself, before taking off his glasses and casting a spell.

"I leave for a few weeks and come back to this...Just what is Leon doing...?"

His spell made some rain clouds form within a 50 m radius, which then emptied out over the houses, putting out the fires.

"Well, with that done, now to start looking for survivors."

The B-rank ex-adventurer-cum-bartender then began to methodically move rubble and help civilians up, carrying them to Ophelia's Temple for treatment.

Kathicia arrives at the tavern and notices lots of people bustling around it so she decides to go into it to have a nice nap and escape from the noise~

 

Things seemed to have finally calm down outside, the children that were once worried were now cheerfully playing around in the orphanage... As for me? I wished goodbye to Vhera-chan and Shiori-chan then headed back to my inn room... Hopefully everything was alright...

The city was a disaster, there were quite a few buildings on fire, and there were plenty of crumbled buildings too... And the dead littered the floor... The smell made me want to puke. This was horrible... I prefer dealing with a written report over their demise... It's easier this way...

Luckily, the inn was still intact, one of the buildings that wasn't attacked by any group of cultists... Guess the gods still have some mercy on us...



... No, scrap that, no mercy at all... Damn.

Nina-chan was sleeping in the bed, her breathing as shallow as before... Even though I made sure to give her quite a few Holy Symbols... Haa... Just what is wrong with you girl?

I cooked dinner for us both and then woke her up... She didn't even have enough strength to leave her bed... I don't get it... The curse should've been lifted, shouldn't it? Why is she still like this...?

We somehow ate our soup while I explained what happened... She didn't smile, nor did she cry... She just looked... Empty... "Hey Aria... Am I going to die?" Damn it... Don't say that... Don't ask me that...

"I..." I put my bowl on my lap and then held her hands. "I don't know... But I'll do whatever I can to save you... Don't give up on life yet, alright? Let's keep trying..." She didn't nod...

"Sorry for being a burden..." She just said that instead... Damn it, why do you act adult-like now of all times?! Shut up!

"You're not a burden... Idiot..." She gave me a pained smile from this last one... Guess I'll call Mary-chan over once things calm down a bit... Maybe her situation changed now that this whole ritual thing happened... Hopefully for the better...

 

Waking up unmoved from the spot he fell in, Vandrin grimaces as he pushes himself up. His muscles on fire with even the slightest movement.

"Jesus, I really pushed it huh?", he says sarcastically as he uses his long sword in the sheath as a support for his movement.

Stella had brought his bag and cloak next to him during that time, the calico cat and small flame spirit both were nearby too. As Van grabbed his cloak and bag, they began to follow behind him.

"I'd buy a drink if I wasn't broke", he said thinking about that high commission fee from the guild, "I'll have to talk her down next time", he said with a laugh, which turned into a cough due to the pain.

He slowly makes his way to the church to check the current situation of events.

 

Bill saw some suspicious-looking men and women trying to hide their presence while running in the shadows of alleyways. Using his keen eyesight, the ex-adventurer formed several 4 m long ice spikes and sniped them all from about 100 m away. Making his way towards their location, Bill made sure to incapacitate more suspicious-looking people, before gathering them all up using a supple net of ice and water, before carrying them all to the jail.

"*sigh* Why is it always the higher-ranks who clean up after the juniors?"

He said with a lackadaisical smile on his face, feeling his memories of being an adventurer stir within him from this scenario.

"No rest for the wicked huh."

A punch to the throat and twist to the neck ended the thief. He glanced around. Seems that it's mostly over, but a large pocket of resistance remained led by the cultist head nearby. They're trying to break through the guards and the scant few adventurers, what happened to the hard hitters from before his slumber?

...aaand one of the cultist just rushed onto the encirclement and violently blew up. Suicide bombers, just great.

He surveyed his body. Most of the new injuries were gone and he felt rather refreshed. Grinning savagely, he picked up his blade and slashed open the back of his left hand.

"Dart." He tapped. Twice. Thrice. Again and again and again. By the sixth he blurred through, his focus exceedingly clear as if he temporarily returned to his prime. There was a lul for a second after he passed through, then a massive gash was torn through the cultists' rank as a number of them - most of their mages as well as their leader - collapsed in pieces.

The gourd himself skid into an imperfect roll, crashing into an abandoned stall at the end. His whole body ached and he'd torn a couple muscles on his sword arm, but that was all worth it. He started laughing as he laid there facing the sky.

 

Ryul finished shuttling his third group of injured civilians to the Temple when he happened to see Bill doing the same. He greeted the bartender before the man quickly took off saying something about seeing some shady individuals earlier.

The half-elf was visibly surprised when he observed Bill's extremely quick speed as it appeared like the man was more like an advanced-level adventurer than a simple barkeep. Hmm. Seemed like he was not the only one that kept secrets.

Tired and drained, Ryul quietly wondered how everyone else was dealing with the unexpected assault as he moved to rescue some more injured townspeople by escorting them to the Temple of Ophelia.

He came across a few cultists here and there, but it seemed like their numbers were drastically reduced compared to earlier.
