Discussion An Ideal Isekai Novel (for me)

The 'transported-to-another-world' genre, Isekai Genre for short, has always been something that could upgrade the story of a novel by a notch or just be something that can ruin a story because of how unneeded it is when never expanded upon. And I'm looking at you: Knights & Magic. Do think just adding more talent and adding random bits of knowledge to the main character equals using the full potential of the genre?

Even Mushoku Tensei, a novel either loved or hated by readers because of how the protagonist didn't break his character as literally trash, was able to use the MC's reincarnation in ways to show his emotional development in a new world.

Not to say that Knights & Magic doesn't have its strengths but you get my point. There are less and less writers who actually care about the fundamental personality of the transported individual and more people who only write stereotypical protagonists that can't develop at all.

Am I sh*tting on writers? Not really if you think about it because it isn't like the MC having a past really matters as long as the story grabs the readers interest. There are people who look down on 'Transported to Another Wprld with a Smartphone' due to its lack of information regarding the MC's past and the fact that he's OP as f*ck like your typical wish-fulfilment harem protagonist!

However, even that had its own adaptation because its ambiance was nice and character were cute.

And really, that's all you need to make a story that's popular in this kind of story: Characters the reader actually cares about due to the cuteness of their personality traits.

Now guys, this may sound like I'm just hitting the ball back and forth on the subject on whether the 'past' of the MC is important or not but I actually wanted to bring up the first argument I had for the sake of the discussion I wanted to have.

To create a story that has an actual feeling of 'seriousness', I feel having the MC's 'past' is essential, but are there any ideas when it comes to having that integrated in a story?

There a generic templates of Demon Lords and Heroes fighting each other but there aren't any finished translations of stories that use this element while adding their own twist.

 

I'd be the Hero that goes missing in action and is found traveling around with waifus.

 

i will go with being a monster catch some heroes with their harem and kill them for fun

There are times when you can choose to ignore writing that part because sometimes too much realism isn't a good thing.
