Importance of the Fox movie empire, especially animation.
-The above is about Gertie the Dinosaur and how Fox films had a role in the history of animation: Gertie was certainly the first animated character, but she's the first with personality. She was in the first dino-centric movie. Oh, and the live-action/animated version is/was arguably the first really successful Fox movie. The more familiar version of, the Fox version, is 106 on 12/28.

O.K., so the first "movie" version of this dino premiered on 2/18/1914 as part of a vaudeville by comic artist Winsor McCay (roughly 1866-1871-7/26/1934. So, technically it was the first dino film counting the vaudeville version. The 2nd film to feature a dino was a 4/25/1914 film called "Brute Force". BF was directed by D.W. Griffith (1/22/1875-7/23/1948). Griffith is best known for directing the 1914 silent film "The Birth of a Nation". His 3/10/1910 short called "In Old California" was the first movie filmed in Hollywood.

McCay also drew a comic strip called "Little Nemo" on/off from 10/15/1905-1/9/1927. The dates he worked on it were 10/15/1905-7/23/1911 then 9/3/1911-7/26/1914 and then from 8/3/1924-1/9/1927. Made by both Japanese and American creative minds, an anime movie called "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland" premiered in Japan on 7/15/1989 and in the U.S. on 8/21/1992.
    a. In the Eng. dub, the OG voice of Littlefoot ("Land Before Time") voiced Nemo. The character of Flip was voiced by an actor who got his start in silent films: Mickey Rooney (7/23/1920-4/6/1014). Bill Martin (10/8/1945-1/27/2016; one of the later voices of Shredder in the original TMNT cartoon) as the villain, the Nightmare King. The late Renee Auberjoinis (1/1/1940-12/8/2019; Odo on "Star Trek: DS9") played Prof. Genius, the advisor to Dreamland ruler King Morpheus.

    b. An anime version of Gertie is holding up a circus tent from about 38:23-39:00 into the film. Crunchyroll has had the Eng. dub version on their site for just over 9 years. You can see the Eng. dub on the official YT page of TMS Entertainment.

A 1955 epi. of the TV anthology show Disneyland called "The Story of Animated Drawing" gave a dramatization of the vaudeville version of Gertie. When Winsor's son, Bob (6/21/1896-4/21/1962), was used as a consultant for the epi., Walt said "Bob, all this should be your father's".
-a. Rants: a. Consider this on as to why the Disney-Fox merger was bad: twitter.com/Kadmos1/status/1311200239802413056.
    b. The first linked page also links to Some info about the person who Fox News is named after, film producer William Fox (1/1/1879-5/8/1952; died on the 40th b-day as the founding of competitor Paramount Pictures). For all practical purposes, Fox News was "born" in 8/1919 and it was in Oct. 1919 that they began being shown regularly on movie screens as newsreels.

    d. Shame on Rupert Murdoch for selling off most of the Fox Empire, for the USDOJ permitting a semi-monopoly, and Disney for buying. 1000s of lay-offs are not worth it. Uncle Walt and film producer William Fox would not approve of this merger.

    d. Should time travel become a practical thing before I die, I would travel back so that the FNC was never formed. Also, 20CF bought Marvel and Lucasfilm each at least 15.5 years ago but the parent company of 20CF was at least $10-$15 bil. smaller than what it was 15.5 years ago, Also, Disney would never get 20CF.

    e. 20CF was formed on 5/31/1935 as a merger of Twentieth Century Pictures and the Fox Film Corp. The Fox Film Corp was prev. called Box Office Attraction, the company that released the more familiar version of Gertie. So, Disney in a way killed inspiration.

In mid-Jan., Disney removed the name of "Fox" from the various Fox companies they bought. Note that Fox News is legally-owned by the Fox Corp which is not part of Disney. Same goes for Fox Network and a few other Fox channels. However, channels like FX are now Disney-owned. While I can see why Disney removed the name from the Fox companies they bought (to avoid connection/confusion with Fox News), I don't agree with it.

As this article states, "It’s ironic that the company that can trace its humble beginnings to Gertie the Dinosaur, now owns the company responsible for its inspiration. Over 100 years after Gertie was seen by hundreds of people across the nation, Bob Iger and his Disney empire will be striking the name Fox, leaving William Fox in the history books, where he will sadly stay."
