The sensitive nose of a canine would have made this search far more sensible.

It seems that they are highly protective of their young, and I must have broken an arm while rolling out of danger. I must continue. There is no time to waste.

The curse is taking it's burden, and the bleeding will not stop no matter how much I bind my wounds. It is almost as if the curse is causing my veins to spurt blood. Only a little bit further........

Time is still urgent, so I have no luxury of waiting for my broken left arm to heal. Instead, I have it splinted and with healing poultice applied. I have no told Mary that I have returned. I cannot face her now. Tomorrow I will return to the dungeon with a hound. I have invested all of my savings into this venture, and I have written my will and turned in my resignation letter to the City Guard. I think... I have a feeling... I may not return quite the same. However, I think I have lived a good life. If I am able to locate my love's child's remains and conduct a simple cremation, I will be happy to send his ashes to the surface. This, I think, will let me rest in piece.

I've also acquired some of Mary's son's old shoes, so I hope Paint will be able to lead us on the right trail towards his scent.
