Discussion At what point do you give up on a story -If not why?

-Why you would give up on a story (this is not limited to literature) ?

-And if you have given up on one feel free to mention which one and why

-If you've never given up on any story why/how?

 

Boredom. Disgust. Despair. Bunch of other one word answers.

 

1: If it gets too boring for me, plots just pretty much get recycled throughout the novel.
-If there's basically no profound advancement in the story.
-no updated chapters.

2: LMS- recycled plot-line most of the time, others will disagree with me though. Hey, I got up to the part where Weed became a pirate.
-Re:Monster: I haven't really checked but the site I used before is still stuck at 71 since last year.
-Stellar Transformation: DRAMA, too much DRAMA, they stopped for a looooong time, can't get me back into the swing of things. Others would argue that it's also basically recycled plots.

 

When it's become boring, irritating, on hiatus for long long time.

i usually give up when the story get so fucking repetative that i want to kill myself. And everyone else too . xianxia does that. except some like ATG, MGA, MGS, TDG, DE and a few others, i dont make it far in that genre. i would still read them if they were completely translated but other than that i would drop it. or if there is rape in the story. well, i guess it depends on a variety of factors, but if the story is like GADW then i would only read once there are a stockpile of chapter already out. i can handle a lot of stuff in stories and dont truly give them up but they would be replaced by newer of more interesting stories. Basically i will still read most stories i find. . . eventually.

 

i stopped MGA because it's getting boring for me reading only bloodshed. didnt dropped it though. might continue if i'm out of anything to read.

 

It's entirely based on my enjoyment/entertainment. In addition to that, I'm pretty picky with my novels. For instance, I like strong MCs who aren't mental weak willies. To elaborate further, in the past, Shinka no Mi was one of my favourite Japanese WNs; however, the MC was/became just too insecure and pathetic ~ I lost all enjoyment in the series.

Likewise, because I read so many novels, I cannot afford not to cut a few of them even if they're not bad. Simply put, time is against me. For example, I had to cut a few Chinese novels that I actually enjoyed simply because they were relatively not as good as some of my other reads; however, if I had the time I would have definitely continued to read them.

Accordingly, in my bookmarks I have two folders, 1 for "Dropped" goods (given up on) and 1 for "On Hold" goods which, given the time, I may go back and read in the future. Therefore, I always bookmark the last chapter I was on and just let the novel sit in my bookmarks under said categories.

just recently I stopped reading "god and devil world".

I started it because of the interesting story set-up... however when the characters just went dumb (in my opinion) i just couldn't anymore.

SPOILERS:

For example:
->Morality:
-the way the little girl was depicted as if she had all the knowledge (she's like friggin 12) i have a younger sister and when she was 12, believe me, ... she was nowhere anywhere near that. Especially since at that point i believe the second month after hadn't passed. yeah, i know... biologically speaking... also customs of early marriage... but it doesn't fit well with me...

->also logical flaws:
-would see to it that my ppl (all) got to the point where they could fight without concentional arms ASAP -> logic dictates that if you dont get stronger using them while enemies evolve at some point arms are useless... also the EXP are lost and not only distributed to someone else... its just bad in many ways... it can't even compare to an overleveled starter pokemon

-> cheesiness:
- all thist "postion"-appointting... the last time that wasn't childish was when i was 14 maybe?!

 

I forgot to add, manga adaptations. Before 'Battle through the Heavens' started translating, the manga was out. Basically, the manga is already around 200-300 chapters ahead of the novel, plot wise. I just can't get myself to go back that far to read what I already know.

 

I have given up on
coiling dragon: it became to long for me, also not too much romance.
Isekai canceller: disgusting, not the mc.
Konjiki no Wordmaster: not really given up, but no choice but to give up (the translator gone one by one)
Also some dark fantasy genre, my heart can't endure it.

I never given up on: death march (its really good novel), ATG, ISSTH, LuBu (I'm hard fan of three kingdoms).

meh, you are like me. i can not handle the darker genres, up to a point. for example, i liked akame ga kill but since i live in fear that all the characters i like would be killed off eventually i kinda just stopped reading. i know i will get back to it eventually though.

Isekai canceller. . . why is that one bad? i mean disgusting? i am considering reading it but now im not sure. . . .
