I don't use an anti virus, I just prefer not downloading suspicious exe or bat files.

Actually, Windows Defender and Firewall are enough. And just some common sense when browsing than you're safe

    Yea...

I use windows defender plus malwarebytes and add a adblock and you have more than enough protection.

Just run through some few full scans and stuff and dont go into suspicious sites and your pretty much fine.

If you like playing with fire with those shiny red buttons, which make you wonder which download button is the real one, on that suspicious site which your browser warned against because it redirected when you clicked some link, and visiting that site gave an exciting pop-up announcing that you were amazingly the lucky winner, making you praise your luck when you read that you just won $1 Million and all you have to do is give all your personal details and voila!~ you think you will be rich --
then try Kaspersky or Bitdefender which are paid softwares.
You could try AVG free version which is okay, but don't expect the heavy duty stuff which the above two can provide, 'cuz you know, it's free.

Windows Defender and Firewall are enough if you update your system regularly and have win7 or win10, otherwise I’d just go with Kaspersky.

Note: This is recommendation is for home-use only, businesses-use is something entirely different. (But also Kaspersky, just with a lot settings modified)

This is THE BIGGEST SHIT on Kaspersky, ....
But if you 're a fan of Putin, this is the av for you...

    Fun Quotes:
Yes, If the Russian government has a secret law that insists all tech related companies are obliged to have agencies agents working in their company, technically everything is fully appropriate ....

Yes, the leave the part where they copy the whole damn thing to their server in order for mother Russia to dissect ....

    Kidding aside...
    How about avira guys?

A link to a paywall doesn’t tell me much...
And if you’re talking about backdoors that give out shit to to the government, then you can’t trust any company that develops software.
I also don’t trust the Washingtonpost, so there goes that.

Edit: Nvm, still at work so I just gave the page a cursory glance, have read it now. But that’s still not big shit, that’s like telling people to not use software because “It’s from Russia”. Possibly and could are not reasons for me to not use a piece of software that is far better than any of its competitors I have tested so far.

Aren't laws supposed to be public? Otherwise they can randomly pick you up and make arrests when you never even knew what law you broke.

    Its Russia....

Putin sent an assasin on his political rival. Got him killed, when it went on public Putin said hes taking over the investigation. Putin claimed the killing was politically motivated, put some people in jail and shut the case.

Now you tell me what law which guy broke and who went in jail and who is dead...

The best one right now is bitdefender. They sometimes have 6 month free trials if you look around.

This is a good place to keep an eye out on how well AVs are:

At the company where I work, all sorts of problems often happen due to viruses. Often, these viruses climb from the Internet, or they are manually entered by employees of the company to spoil or because of their own irresponsibility.
We used Avast, first a trial version and then a license. Avast alone is a useful program, but not omnipotent. In compatibility with antivirus, we use Computer monitoring software in order to avoid further possible problems. I advise you to immediately prioritize depending on your needs. If you need protection of one of your PCs, the trial version is just for you, but if not, expand the possibilities.
