Beauty Pageants, Bodybuilder and Bikini contests, etc.

So Miss Universe Philippines 2022 was trending and it made me curious just how popular are they these days? I feel like pure beauty contests seems to be dying like the Oscars, but maybe that's me being old. I've watched a few snippets from Bodybuilding and Bikini contests in the past, especially if a coworker was competing but generally skimmed past Miss Universe and similar ones if they popped up on TV.

I know that show with Honey Booboo (sp?) was popular a while back, and I've personally watched videos about Bodybuilders prepping for contests, so I added the third "I've watched content about contestants outside of contests".

more interested on singing contest~ anyone remember Asia Bagus? that the first singing contest this cat remember that have multinational contestants~ then xxx idol then xxx talent~

 

I don't see the point of holding these contests and, even less, the point of watching them.

 

i didn't even even know it was happening coz my feed is filled with election drama... I just saw the result

 

They have lost their popularity.

It used to be very big and I remember everyone tweeting about it. No one would've known the Oscars happened if it weren't for Will Smith.
I feel like the shows about them were popular because it was when reality shows were trending (Toddler and Tiaras, etc.). MTV and other networks had so many reality shows that it's crazy to see that there's not much televised nowadays.

 

I've never had anyone say to me "Hey, did you see who won Miss Universe last night?", but they claim they have 500 million viewers and in theory that's roughly 1/16th of humanity. So that suggests maybe its super popular in some countries and just unpopular in my area? Or I'm just lucky?

The Miss Universe Philippines has at least 2 million views across several videos on YouTube and one made it to trending after 1 day.

 

Pretty sure they're dying along with cable TV. I don't think I've ever watched a full show, don't know anyone who has either. Like I've seen sections and clips but that's it.

Oh but I used to watch girl/kids pageants, whatever they're called, when they come on. I think those clips are still pretty popular rn, especially with people reacting to them on yt. It's kinda entertaining but definitely seems messed up

What's the purpose of these contest nowadays beside making the investor more money and new high class escorts?
