Everybody is smart in their own way. Society's idea of intelligence is highly flawed.

 

Since the vote is about how smart the character is and not how much I like each novel, I find the competition a bit unfair since Dantalion's INT specs are high above the other two.
Tatsuya from the irregular at magic school would have been a better choice to compete with.

 

NO smart MC?

 

Those that are "adept at applying common sense" aren't smart, they are just a proper member of society that follow the rules (of society) better than others. They can't create nor innovate anything, just use what exist the way they were taught. And that goes even against what a human is.

A human is a being that can create things, and find multiple other ways to utilize the things they created, besides the original purpose. If you follow the common sense you will never discovers those ways. Now if we were talking about good sense it would be different.

Dantalian has the best education and is good at manipulating people ,but i've always felt that his actions lack creativity.
Gil doesn't have the sugar coated tongue of Dantalian , but he's actions are more creative imho , especially in millitaristic aspects. Dantalian is not really good as a general.

The Roland from Crazy Lich is quite Smart too.

2 problems I have encountered with the smart tag.

1. Just because the MC beat an opponent smartly doesn't make the MC smart just his adversary a morron.

2. When a MC wants to be cunning and smart unfortunately doesn't equal an MC being cunning and smart.

There are some fake tags here on NU where the option 2 clearly applies.

I ended up giving it to Dantalion because Gil Mephius is the idiot Prince who died, Orba is the smart protagonist who took his place lol.

 

How about Regis Auric from Altina, or Ikta Solork from Alderamin? Maybe Yujin from Your and My Asylum, Izayoi from Mondaiji and Sora and Shiro from No Game No Life?

I can help you find so much If i hit you on the head repeatedly causing you to have an iq like the hulk. Heck even twilight might look like written by a genius.
