Just finished MTL'ing. The MTL'ing was pretty easy and smooth for the most part. I really like the flow of the novel. A tiiiiny bit melodramatic at parts, but not so bad that it felt like a day time soap opera. I mtl’d this in 2 days, so I might be blurry on some details. Also this is MTL, so I could be wrong. I’m going to start from where ML is helping MC study so he can get into 6th school. Spoiler: Spoiler Per ML’s demand, Lin Qihue assigns the high school boss girl to look after MC. Lin Qihue isn’t happy about it- he still loathes and hates MC - but he’s more concerned with ML hating him than he is with making MC’s life miserable. Life for MC improves a bit, as he studies diligently under ML’s tutelage and boss girl’s friendship. The bullies leave MC alone and his life is pretty peaceful. ML goes to visit MC at his school. MC is shocked and surprised, but he's also super delighted. He takes ML to his dorm and tries to make his cramped place comfortable for the ML. But ML just wanted to check up on MC and his wound. He accuses of MC for lying and not going to the hospital. MC says he didn't lie! Well he did, but afterwards, he did go to the hospital! He shows ML his medical records, and ML gets slightly mad because in the medical records, it reads "knife wound". ML tells MC that he'll clean the wound for him, and he has to eat his medicine on time. MC meekly allows the ML to clean his wound and obediently agrees to eat his medicine. While the ML is cleaning his wound, MC is a nervouswreck bc of how close they are. After ML clean his wound, he gets up to leave, and MC is startled. He thought they were going to have lunch together. ML says he only wanted to check up on MC, and now that he's cleaned his wound, he doesn't need lunch. MC reflexively grabs ML and latches onto him. ML frowns and tells him to let go, but MC refuses. ML finally pries MC off and tells him to calm himself down before leaving. MC watches the ML leave, his hands shaking. The big day comes and MC takes the examination for the 6th school. He goes to look his result but can’t find it. When he contacts the school, he finds out everything has been taken care of, welcome to the school. MC is a bit confused but also super happy. The boss girl celebrates with him by giving him the school uniform and new school bag. MC tries to refuse but boss girl is insistent. Mc realizes the boss girl is insistent bc ML bought the items for him and told her to give it to him. MC accepts, super touched. Right before MC enters the school, he meets with his dad. Or rather his dad demands to see him. MC and the Dad have a very antagonistic relationship. The dad asks why MC is suddenly interested in studying at 6th school. He’s an idiot. If it wasn’t for ppl pulling strings in the background, does he think with his test score he could get in? The dad asks is the reason why he’s going there bc of ML? The Dad threatens the MC to not bother the ML, don’t stick to him and cause trouble for him. Anyway, MC tells his dad off, and proceeds to enter the school. Later the dad is home with the Mom and Lin Fengfeng. The ML is there to visit them and has a one on one with the Dad. The dad asks the ML if the MC is bothering him and the ML basically says the MC is no bother, and subtly threatens the Dad to leave MC alone. MC enters the 6th school and lives in the dormitory. Not much is mentioned about MC's roommates. MC's roommates gets along with him, and they're cordial to each other. When MC is in class, he becomes friends with the class leader. The class leader's nickname is "Big Head". MC is a bit wary of big head at first, because he's not used to having friends. He's paranoid and suspicious of people's kindness, but big head is very cheerful and nice. It doesn't take long for MC to warm up to him. Oh boy, this is going to take super long if I go into detail, so I'm just gonna get to the key points: - Big head tells MC that he can asks anything of him and he'll do it. MC says he wants to meet ML (MC thinks ML is still mad at him bc of the impromptu hug). Big head says that's a hard task! ML is famous at school, and he's known to be hard to approach and cold. MC gets sad, but says that's the favor he wants. Big Head says sure, fine, he can do it. ML sometimes gets invited to lunch by Teacher Liu. They can use that opportunity to meet ML - The plan works, Big head and MC get to have lunch with Teacher Liu and ML. Teacher Liu warms up to MC immediately bc she can tell MC and ML are acquainted. MC leaves a good impression for her bc he seems diligent, has a nice personality. She knows due to ML's personality, it's hard for him to have friends. So MC being ML's friend is enough for the Teach Liu to like him. ML abruptly leaves the lunch table, making MC think he's still mad -I kind of forgot where this scene goes, but MC and ML actually have the same PE period. MC is doing laps, but he can't stop glancing at ML. Due to his negligence, he gets stepped on and starts bleeding. He ignores and tries to hide it and keeps running, but ML always had his eyes on MC and noticed every little thing. He sees MC is limping, so hurriedly goes up to him, and picks him up to head to the infirmary. -MC confronts ML to apologize about last time. ML says he's mad not because of the hug, but because MC did it without consent. MC blurts out if there's consent, then it's okay? MC asks ML can he kiss him. ML frowns and says no! ML tells MC that he's not interested in that way, and leaves. -MC figures out he likes ML in a romantic way. He always thought he just admired and wanted to be closer to ML. He didn't know what he felt was love. Figuring out it was love, MC goes to ask big head and boss girl for advice on how to pursue ML. Following boss girl's advice, MC leaves a carton of milk and a love letter on ML's desk every morning. ML is pretty popular. Some ppl have given him love letters before, and he would toss it. He was about to toss the love letter this time too, when he saw the character "Jia" (MC's name) on the corner. Lin Qihue is ML's deskmate, he knows ML very well and though ML would toss the letter and milk. He knows ML is conscientious and would never drink a carton of milk from god's knows where, but to his surprise ML kept the letter and drank the milk! He even saw the corner of ML's mouth lift into a smile. A SMILE! For an entire week, the letter and milk was placed on ML's desk, and ML kept every letter. Lin Qihue could tell ML was in a good mood. But then the letter and milk stopped, and ML's mood dropped. The entire classroom was on teetherhooks because they were scared of setting ML off. Lin Qihue though whoever was leaving these letters and milk was a mastermind. Start off by giving the ML things to set expectation, then taking it away suddenly so that the ML will miss them. Great tactics! But little did Lin Qihue know, MC stopped sending letters and milk bc he ran out of money. -MC gets a bottle of water and tries to give it to ML. Lin Qihue notices that whenever MC is near, ML gets distracted and he starts to make mistakes when playing basketball. ML drags MC away from prying eyes, and tells MC that he needs to stop. Stop doing these things. He doesn't like love letters or milk. MC asks ML what does he like then? ML flatly rejects MC and tells him he doesn't like him. MC looks at him dejectedly and runs off. - We get ML's POV. We find out he's always been fascinated with MC from the beginning. ML is traumatized because when he was a child, his mom was always bed ridden. She was suicidal and had a weak body. As a young toddler, he was afraid to visit her, because whenever he went, she would sit up from her bed and stare at him with hungry eyes. These eyes, scared the hell out of him. So he only visited her once a week, and it was just to say "Mom" by the doorway before running away. Later the mom kills herself by eating a bottle of pills. ML didn't shed any tears, bc he didn't feel connected to his mom, but at the funeral, he saw his grandparents from his mom side blaming the dad for killing their daughter. Later at home, ML finds a photo of his mom. She's young and beautiful, unlike the wasted woman he's used to seeing, and in the photo, she's holding a baby him. The eyes she's looking at him in the photo, it's full of unconditional love. He realizes the "hungry eyes" he thought his mom was giving him, it was love. She was too weak to call out to him, so she used her eyes to tell him to come closer. In this huge mansion they live in, she has no one. Her husband abandoned her for the company, the sister-in-law (ML"s aunt and Feng's mom) hated her. She only has him, her son. ML immediately regrets that he didn't go see his mother, that he didn't take the chance to take care of her and return her love. As a child, when ML was playing with Fengfeng, he noticed the MC hiding in the grass. When he chased the dragonfly for Feng, he purposely chased the dragonfly to that area, and to have the dragonfly land near the MC so that MC could catch it for him. Then throughout he years, he always visited Feng and played with Feng in the courtyard, because he wanted MC to look at him. The eyes MC has, it's very similar to his mother- loving and obsessive. The MC only has ML in his eyes, and can't help but thrive and soak up that attention. When he plays with Feng, he purposely makes a lot of racket and noise, so that the MC will look out into the courtyard and see him. But even though the ML is fascinated with MC, he can't love him. He'll nurture and care for MC, make sure MC gets a great education and life, but he can't love him. If ML falls for MC, he knows he'll ruin MC's life. -MC keeps his distance for a bit, and ML is depressed. His top-notch performance at school starts to slip. It's to the point his teachers are worried. He can't get MC out of his mind, especially his devastated face. But MC didn't give up. Rather, he's making a scarf for ML. He wants to surprised ML with a big gift and hopes to win his heart this way. MC put in a lot of effort to the scarf, and the day he wants to hand over the gift, the ML isn't in his classroom. But two boys were. The two boys remember MC. MC made a big scene, calling Lin Qihue names. Following the rumor, they think MC is being a nuisance to ML, so one of the boys wanted to play a prank on MC. They told MC, ML is at a meeting with the teachers and will be back, but ML told MC they'll reconcile if ML buys him coffee. MC thinks this is a trick and it's super suspicious, but decides to do it anyway because if there's even 1% chance it's true, it's better to do it. MC leaves the scarf on ML's desk because it's raining heavily outside and he doesn't want to get it dirty. When he returns with the coffee, it's to find the two boys throwing the scarf on the floor and stomping on it. MC flies into a rage and gets into a fight with the two of them. The teachers are quickly called into the scene, but they even have a hard time holding MC back. ML rushes to the scene, and gets them to let go of MC. He hugs MC to him, and tries to settle the situation. It looks bad for the MC. The boy tries to get MC expelled, saying he's the one that started the fight. The cameras will show proof of that! Anyway, ML says they need to gather evidence before they can figure anything out, in the meantime, MC can apologize for now and that should be enough. No need to expel him. MC refuses to apologize and looks at ML like ML betrayed him. MC runs off, and ML panics. He quickly chases after MC in the rain. -ML and MC have a heart to heart. ML tells MC that he doesn't hate him, and that he didn't think MC was wrong. MC think ML doesn't like him, but he can't stop his heart from melting at how sincere and gentle the ML was being to him. ML says they'll continue to talk in his apartment. Tells MC to stay here while he gets something to cover them with. With ML gone, MC debates whether he should run away, but when he tries to get up, his legs are "numb". Since they're "numb", he has no choice but to wait for ML. Anyway, ML takes MC back to his home. ML confesses and tells MC he likes him. MC is starstruck and is like what? How can that be? Huh? The two end up making out. (Previously, MC kissed ML but it was a closed mouth kiss). Both of them are each other's first kiss, but ML is a smart student and a fast learner. From what he observed, he knows what to do to make a kiss passionate and deeper. He slips his tongue into MC's mouth, and MC's knees soon grows weak. ML is all like, "This is how you should kiss me in the future". MC is like "The future? There's a next time?" -ML demands to take a look at MC's injuries. He wants to make sure the MC isn't hurt too badly. MC strips and the ML wipes his body with a wet towel. While the top half of his body makes MC nervous and excited, it's hard for MC to contain himself when ML tells him to take off his pants. MC resists, but ML is persistent. When he takes off MC's pants, he finds out MC is hard. ML gives MC a handjob, and the MC tries to reciprocate, but his hands are clumsy. Both of them still up coming though. -ML asks MC to move in with him. MC agrees and falls asleep. While MC is asleep, ML makes a call and visits the hospital. He gets the boy that got beat up by MC to transfer out of school by getting the dad a job somewhere abroad. -When MC wakes up, ML promptly reminds MC that he promised to move in with him. They head to the dormitory, and while MC happily packs bc he's on cloud 9, ML grows steadily unhappy, realizing the MC was deprived from a lot of essentials, and what little he did have, it was hand me downs or broken. ML vows to get MC everything he needs. He'll nurture, protect, and provide for MC. -MC moves in with ML. The first night he spends with ML, he refuses to sleep in his own room. Rather, he weedles his way into ML's bed and sleeps with him (as in the non-sexual way). He uses the excuse he's afraid of the dark (though the previous night he spent with the ML, he slept fine by himself in the other room lol). The two sleep cuddled next to each other. Every time the ML would move, the MC would wake up and pull on the ML until they're back to being glued together. Even though the ML was uncomfortable and had a hard time sleeping bc of their position, he tried to move as little as possible so the MC could have a peaceful sleep. -Not sure if it was this morning or the previous morning, but MC has breakfast with ML. MC had bumped into the auntie that was hired to cook for ML. MC tries to pry a little, when he sees there's two sets of food. He wonders if ML will invite him to eat with him, or ask him to go away. He ask where's auntie eating? ML says he doesn't like eating with other people. MC's face drops and ML quickly corrects himself and says MC is an exception. He wants to have breakfast with him. MC gets all happy hearing he's the exception, though he he remembers ML he often has lunch with Teach Liu too right? Doesn't that mean Teacher Liu is an exception? He also remembers ML ate with the Lin family all the time. So this "exception" had a pretty big margin. And I'll stop here for now. I'll continue when I have time. I think this is about chapter 30ish. She got hospitalized and was in critical danger. Even though she didn't die, she was hospitalized for a long time as the stab wounds had lasting effects. -Lin FengFeng wasn't mentioned much after the ML basically stopped visiting him. - Lin Qihue was ostracized by his family. When ML left to study abroad and had to break up with the MC, Lin Qihue thought he'd do a last "hurrah" and hired 3 thugs to beat up the MC. The MC had a sack over his head, was cuffed to the bathroom sink, and was beat up nonstop for 3 hours. When he'd faint, the thugs would pour water over him to wake him up and start the process all over again. When the ML went to see MC right before he left, he noticed MC's injuries. The ML looked at Lin Qihue and said, "If I find out it's you who did this to him, don't think you'll get away unscathed." Afterwards when the ML found out, he beat Lin Qihue up and then Lin Qihue lost his right to study abroad and expand his connections, and later he lost his right to inherit his family's company. He was thoroughly stepped on by the ML. When he tries to contact the ML to apologize, the ML ignores him. -The mother dies in prison. -Why mc was treated so bad: MC's mother thought she was loved by the Lin Qing (the Mc's dad), but he quickly abandons her. The mom thinks he did that because of the Liu woman. So during a celebration at the Lin family, the mom goes over to make a commotion. The Liu woman tries to act strong and confront MC's mom, but she becomes emotionally distraught and ends up going into labor too early. Lin Feng Feng is a premature birth baby. His weak body is caused by MC's mom. -Why the ML needs redemption: After MC's mom stabs the Liu woman, ML's family is furious. They want the mom and MC to both pay. ML's dad tells ML to stop playing around. He has to study abroad and expand the family connection NOW. If ML is stubborn and continues to play house with the MC, then he's going to make MC's life miserable. So ML has no choice but to leave MC. ML is forbidden contact with MC, but he still wants to see him one last time. Though ML can't tell MC why or what's happening, he tells MC that he's leaving the country to study abroad. MC thinks ML doesn't want him anymore. Anyway, they lose contact for 7 years.
To summarise what I understand from the translated chapters so far, MC (shou) is called Fu Jia, while ML (gong) is called Lu Qi'an. MC is the illegitimate son of Lin Qing (scum dad) and a woman surnamed Fu. He is basically Cinderella in the Lin house. ML is MC's half brother's (Lin Fengxun) cousin, where his dad is siblings with MC's step-mom, Lu Wanqing. The interaction between MC and ML... is odd, and fraught with misunderstanding, on MC's part. There's instant attraction, but very low-key, and subtle. For readers that are used to fast relationship development, you have to be patient. Chap 10 explained quite a lot about the way MC and ML perceive each other. Lots of drama here, haha. I'll skip. Also the love and chase/ never give up until you're loved back mentality I see in a lot of novels can get really creepy and annoying in real life. They're also annoying to read about tho. Read enough of those stories in shoujo manga, so my interest has basically run dry. We also have a wishy washy gong, hmm. He wants MC to love him, but doesn't want to love back, haha. Eventually loves back. Eventually breaks up without saying the reason, which is very dumb in my opinion. Telling the MC exactly why they have to break up (father will hurt him otherwise) can let the MC be on guard AND not get his heart broken. ML is pretty dumb. MC is pretty dumb. They deserve each other, and I deserve better.
On the contrary, shou is actually very assertive. Not only is he aggressive and short-tempered, but he's the one with visible initiative in bridging the gap between him and ML. That's one of the thing that made me confused and looked back at the synopsis, because I was like, "Is this FJ the shou or gong?"
