I am curious in the novel community slang what is the difference between a book and a novel.
Especially in regards to a website name.
    Xnovels vs Xbooks.
Which will be considered an umbrella term book or novel?
If a website covers web novels, light novels, comics etc. Will xbooks.com be more suitable or will xnovels.com be more suitable?
    Thanks in advance

Novels are short and simple stories.
Books are more complex and have a more important length.

My English teacher told me novels are the more proper term for any bound literature
And literature can be anything that is written down

Here is a better phrasing of the question.
    All dogs are animals(umbrella term)
But not all animals are dogs.
So which will be dogs and which is animals between novel and book?
Would you consider book the umbrella term or do you consider novel the umbrella term?

Book: a collection of pages with content. The content can be graphics (photo book), text or both. It's a medium (think CD as in compact disc)

Novel: a fictional text, written to entertain. It's a content form (think music)

So all novels could be books but not all books are novels.

Gah! No for f*cks sake. Not all novels are books. A book consists of PAPER! not data files (webnovels), clay tablets or cuneiform!
    They are different concepts

I think you are thinking too much about whether the name has 'novel' or 'book'. The website Content matters more than the name "Novel" or "Book". Yes, a website should be easy to remember but just like company names it doesn't necessarily have to be directly related to what they do.

    For example:
    Apple
    Amazon
ibook (which has nothing to do with novels or books)

As far as novel or book:
    By definition :
A book is a series of pages assembled for easy portability and reading, as well as the composition contained in it.

A novel is a fictitious prose narrative of book length, typically representing character and action with some degree of realism.

And they are not books. They are just named similarly because they are a similar medium.
You could call a vinyl a disc and a CD a compact disc and they would still not be the same.

Or I can give you the tofu-burger and eat a delicious hamburger right next to you... cause hey, both are burgers

aren't they the same? It would've been different if you were asking the difference between novels and novellas.

To address the actual question, as far as slang is concerned I consider them all to be the same, as far as when visiting story sites.

    Novels
    Books
    Tales
    Stories

The site content matters more than the name. :)
