Well, I don't want to buy a fight here, but as a Rio de Janeiro resident, I would just like to point out that the video, although true, is quite bias. All of those settlements in Barra (where the Olympics take place) that were removed are in fact illegal. Those areas are actually natural reserves and parks...

As for the "sound-proof wall".... yeah, I doubt there is anybody in Rio that believes that...

im only using one little area as an example. also im not fluent with their tax laws so i cant make more comment on this matter but im assuming the poor cant pay those taxes in the first place even if they could its a majority of their income. thats why im saying the govt should put one dollar back for every dollar gained. im not saying we should start with the whole city since that'll be too costly but rather lets start near the olympic park they're building there's about 20 families give them a home there. build an apartment there have the rent be funds for future apartment complex and keep the cycle going the government will pocket none of the money collected from the apartment. so the system will work one apartment at a time eventually all of the people in rio will have a place to live

the main idea of this is an apartment complex one at a time in the slums. we can start making it affordable for those in the lower class, the rent is set at 10% of income do background checks on people to prevent drugs from invading the building.

Brazil should have never gotten the Olympics. Such a joke. The athletes have it bad, what is supposed to be the event of their life is that... They can't even have sex, which is a large part of the after party.

there was an idea to host an olympic game on an island and everyone will go there for the game the island will be runned by the country that host the olympic that year. every other day of the year the island would be left alone with international laws if people decide to live there. or they can ban habitation altogether

Taxes here in Brazil is pretty much included into other things. You don't actually pay tax separately other than land tax and income tax, which is only for individuals above a certain income bracket. Also, i believe it's important to mention that the overwhelming majority of individuals that live in the slums actually don't pay land tax since the land those slums were built in usually belongs to the government, either local or federal, and technically speaking they are living there illegally, at least that's how most slums started anyway. They are called "terras de invasão" or invaded lands because of that, it's just that the governments were forced to recognise those areas simply because they grew too big too fast, creating veritable cities within cities. If the government seriously wanted to get into it, most of the houses on most of the slums in the entire country would have to be torn down on that simple principle, plus there's also the illegal expansions of homes and lands that literally happen everyday, making most of those places unsafe to live. Some of those illegally built houses are built on precipitous places where after it rains it can bring entire houses down in a "avalanche" on mud and water. The problem is that on many of those places, the land still technically belong to the government and as such they can legally reclaim it at any time they need the land for something else. The thing that angers me the most is that they shouldn't have let those people live there in the first place, not if they're just going to reclaim the land the minute they need it for something, leaving individuals who live in those places for years, or sometimes even decades, without the homes they lived in for so long. As for your idea of free apartments, this has existed for years already and hundreds of thousands of individuals were granted places to live once the areas where they used to live were declared unsafe or the land was reclaimed by the government. There are countless thousands of such apartment complexes all over the country, it's just not enough for the enormous demand.

That's a difficult question. The issue is far too chronic and deep to be solved in any expedient way. Strides have been made into doing that, however, and that's what gives me hope. Regardless of the problems faced by this country today, and they are indeed many, there are serious programs in place to help those in need. The problem is that many of such programs don't really solve the problem, simply treating the symptoms while actually exacerbating the fundamental roots of the issue. Programs such as "Bolsa Familia" which provides money to families that are living with less than minimum wage, while great, actually creates a culture of lazy and entitled individuals who think they can suck on the tits of the government forever, and actually try everything they can to accomplish that. Such as having children after children in order to not only maintain, but increase the benefits gained.

Well this kind of thing can also be found in Jakarta.
Some people build houses in Government land.
When the Government wanted to use the land and evict them, the government had to pay them money...
I sighed when read this... I think it will already sufficient for the illegal resident to receive subsidized housings...
Oh well... We can't always please everyone...... even though we should pursue a path with higher sum of .happiness...

Not every people from developed country could understand the chronic problem developing country had...... and vice versa...
