Whether I'm searching tags or creating a list and adding tags, I am sometimes(actually a lot of the time) frustrated that I can't find the one I want. So I was wondering if there was a way to add tags? Or at least ask someone to add more you? If the latter, could someone add these tags: Horror- This needs to be a tag. No-romance(I know you can exclude this on series finder) Psychological Worldbuilding Haunted Setting - The story centers on a haunted setting, like a haunted house, haunted town. Realistic - Things have an explanation behind them.(sounds confusing) First Person/Third Person/Second Person - I, he, you Extroverted Protagonist(Surprisingly ther'e an introverted Protagonist lol) Serious Problems - For example a character is blind, so it discusses the actual real life problems it causes. (The problem cannot be in a minor or background characters. Has to involve the main plot and protagonist.) Sorry if this was already adressed. I tried checking the thread and couldn't find anything.(tbh I'm mainly writing this because I want the horror tag. It's not a big deal.) - Thank you =D
horror is under genres, no-romance is as you said, psychological is under genres worldbuilding could be a useful tag, though a bit vague haunted setting would probably fall under the supernatural genre realistic is... probably kind of subjective. perspective tags could be nice There are.... a lot of ____ protagonist tags, lol. If introverted protagonist exists, I don't see why not for extroverted Serious Problems... well, I'd also consider this "too vague" of a tag. btw if you click "edit" on a novel's tags, you get Request Tag is probably what you're looking for.
I agree that a perspective tag could be nice and maybe world building but the rest are kinda useless? As said above the first three are already genres but wouldn’t realistic go into the same purpose as world building, haunted setting into supernatural or horror, and serious problems is too broad. For example blindness or war is technically a serious problem but wouldn’t the tags disabilities and wars tags just be more descriptive?
I think horror and haunted should just be one tag. serious problem tag should be changed to impaired so people know the main character is handicapped.
Novel's page > Tags > Edit > Request Tag But I agree with others, that most of these are useless. And NU generally tries to limit the number or tags, I think.
There once was a system like that, long, long ago. In fact it was before you could even remove novels with certain tags from the main release page. The problem was that everyone could edit them and thus a few people started messing around with them. Some were trolls, others dissatisfied readers, a few even just read the synopsis and edited the tags based on that. In the end, @Tony saw the Nuffians sins and decided to put an end to it, since it basically made the system useless as a reference.
Yeah, there's a request tag option, so you could request tags to be added. My take: Horror & Psychological are both genres. No romance would be nice, but there's no immediate need for it as you can just exclude the romance genre and the romantic subplot tag on series finder. (and BL/GL genres as that counts as romance as well, I guess) Worldbuilding, Realistic, Serious Problems --> This is rather vague? And also a bit subjective? POV tags would actually be pretty nice to have. Extroverted Protagonist --> seems like ok tag to add? Edit: Oh, yeah. This should have gone in Suggestions & Bug Reports, right?
Interesting enough Blind protagonist is a popular enough plot device that it has its own tag. And Disabilities is the more general tag that already exists.
We didn't, originally. The whole 'request tag' thing is fairly new, relative to NU's lifespan. For the longest time, tags were freely editable for anyone. If you thought a novel should have a tag, you just added it. Made it up on the spot, if it didn't exist. I'm not entirely sure why we switched to the newer system, because I've never been really interested in arguing over or policing tags myself. I think it was probably a mixture of things... abuse of the free editing, disagreements over tag definitions and how they should be applied, and maybe just a general desire to make things more.. structured?... Who knows. I'm just happy to let the others deal with the tags. They seem to enjoy it.
I personally believe it was just @runsing asking Tony-chan over and over again for it because he was tired of fixing typos that created new tags altogether whenever someone wrote something like "Male Protaognist" or whatever.
@GGbookluver are you talking about adding new tags to novels or just being able to suggest new tags for consideration by staff? If it's the second one, i think a tag suggestion thread could be a good idea... unless Cleaning up tags on NU V2.0 already fulfills that role (along with it's many other roles)
You know when you go to rec list and you go through 'advanced search'. Yeah the only way to search for a list is through tags, there is no genre selection. So say I want a list with horror, I can't select horror. Unless I'm just using it wrong?
I genuinely forgot recommendation lists until you made this post... I tried fiddling with it a bit and there doesn't seem to have any intuitive way to filter by genre at the very least. You can try requesting that it should be possible to sort Rec Lists by genre as well.
