So uhhh....When (and why) did we start censoring certain words on the tag pages? https://i.imgur.com/zC0t9F0.png
YAH? @Tony why? did you get in trouble with the feds? did you get in trouble you google ads? did you grow a conscience and trying to make us feels like the degenarates that we are?
I was actually going to make a post about this too (but I forgot). I have no idea what the answers to your questions are, but... I have more info. The tags weren't censored all at once, first the rape tag was censored, then the sex tag, then the word slave in any tag (including the slave and sex slave tags).
It was made following Google Ads issues. It was I think almost 3 years back that the changes started, with the change of sex toys tag to toys tag. But yeah, it is so that Google Ads can continue.
Would that be why some papapa scenes are censored as well? Just went back to read Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil and some of the words were censored like cursed words.
That's weird, considering plenty of sites get away with explicit content, let alone in the case of NU, explicit words. Is this like the people on YT getting demonetized for simple cursing, but 99% of people who you talk to that curse have all their videos still monetized?
okay, but still, why is the word slave censored? what if it is a story about the abolition of slavery? I mean, I learned about slavery in history classes in elementary school, I don't understand the problem with the word itself.
As Mango said, advertising issues. They might have made some new requests, so the censorship was necessary.
very likely https://forum.novelupdates.com/posts/5351829/ https://forum.novelupdates.com/posts/5249661/
Title (but not URL), tags, description and reviews - but the associated titles got missed: https://www.novelupdates.com/series/half-dragon-slave-life/
if it's just cu rse words and s e x word then ok but ... Q A Q I wrote 'st u pid cute' in my review, censoring it makes it sounds so harsh as if i'm actually insulting ppl 'this stupid baby' is now like 'you st*pid'
Anybody can just edit this field. I went ahead and fixed it. Still, it's strange. I'd thought NU was running a script that censored bad words...
I miss the days when we could just say what we mean and joke about it. Now we have to watch what we say. Hopefully the novel we read don't get affect by these issue otherwise we will have to find alternatives
I'm not sure what you're referring to - NUF isn't censored as it doesn't have ads. It's only NU pages that had to censor offensive words due to advertiser requests. As for novels themselves, some are censored some aren't. I guess it depends on the original script and the translator. When I started reading novels I'd fix censored words in my epubs, later when the app I'm reading with added an option to replace words, I let it fix the words for me instead
I don't censor words... I just remove them (mostly pirates and bots), out of sight out of mind. Only for those that broke the Forum Rules, of course
