Question (Chinese) Help with a word

Confused by the meaning of 厢 in these sentences:

这厢他兀自神游，心里有一瞬间的迷茫。(This character just quietly had a revelation about something)

那厢夏安看希维接受了这个讯息，(The characters in this sentence are talking to each other and not to the character in the first sentence)

Afaik they're all conversing in a reception room or something inside of a palace, perhaps they're in a side wing but even then it doesn't make sense to me for the word to be referring to their present location.

Perhaps something like, "Here on this side, he was still in a daze, heart lost in bewilderment," and then "Over on that side, XiaAn saw that XiWei had accepted this news." ??

厢 Can mean side. Hence at this side and for the other side~ I think

"这厢/那厢" has the same meaning as "這裏/那裏," or "here/there." I'd have to know more about the context to translate the whole sentence, but it could simply be expressing two separate bubbles of reaction towards the news.

EDIT: Simplified is 这里/那里

 

厢 is a unit for room as in 这厢房间 this room.
Does the sentence involves two parties from different room, apartment etc?

 

Not necessary~ the word has several meanings when used in different situations.
