Hi guys, I have a bit of a problem at the moment.

I'm looking to purchase a new laptop that will last me for years. Now I have found 1 on amazon that does not look dodgy.

My problem is the fact that it comes in 2 versions:

    One with GTX970M @ £999.99
    AND
    One with GTX1060 @ £1349.99

Both versions have the same specs on everything else.

At the moment I can only afford the £999.99 version.

    So my questions are:

    1. Should I just buy the £999.99 one?
    2. Whats the difference between GTX970M vs GTX1060?
    3. Are there gonna be better sales on/near/after Christmas?

Also, If y'all can recommend a better option that'll be great.

    I LIVE IN IRELAND

    EDIT:
Just wanna say that I know a desktop is better and cheaper than a laptop but I can only get my parents support if I agree to purchase a laptop only.

Personally i would just build my own, but you probs don't wanna do that so i would wait and go with the second one the GTX1060 just because that version has a 128GB SSD which makes for a faster load time.

Neither is bad, however they will only last you a bit of time if you do anything besides basic usage. What do you plan to utilize it for?

You can google the difference. The 970m is 2 years older while the 1060 is much newer and has superior performance in every category.

Well I definitely can't afford that. Also theres the fact that I wanna use my laptop for mostly gaming and a MacBook is not the best choice for that activity.

    Gaming.
I mostly play mobas (league, dota), cardgames(shadowverse, hearthstone) and I emulate games for ps1 and ps2

Laptop lasting for years? Only in fantasy. They start breaking down the day after the warranty expire. If you can only afford the cheaper ones, there's not much options but to take it or wait for a better deal.

Can you not find a compare feature from whichever place is selling them? Also previous customer reviews might be better than our inputs~

For games like those you don't really need the 1060. Now if you were gonna play something like the Witcher 3... I know you know, but a PC would be far better for gaming than a laptop

The 970 will probably only be able to run most mid tier games at the very best, and that would be on reduced graphics, its a slightly older machine. Its roughly said that new components go out of date every 6 months, its 2 years old. While its not bad, it will at most last you 2-3 years, of low to mid tier gaming quality. Itll probably be half decent for games such as WoW but any higher end graphic games will overheat it like a champ.
The second one is newer, and itll last you longer, should be able to handle mid tier gaming, on higher graphics, as well as high-tier gaming on the lowest of graphics. (High tier gaming, puts quite a strain on the computer itself, I would not suggest it for laptops.)
League and dota are mid tier games, hearthstone would be low tier. Graphic demands are much less.

focus on school mate. don't game. it will ruin your life. the laptop is a privilege not a right. It is your parents investing in your future so that you will become successful. If you are going to game, you should use your own money.

Get the1060 if you can wait for a while and save up. Significantly better performance, and mind you 1060 not a mobile version unlike the 970m.

When you say low to mid tier gaming, can you give examples?
    same with high tier gaming.
Is dark souls 3 low, mid, or high tier?

it depends on what games you play on; of course the 1060 is much better because its essentially a slightly stripped down version of the desktop cards. FPS differences between games can range from 40-80% difference. For FPS figures see here:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-970M.126694.0.html
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile...060-Laptop-Benchmarks-and-Specs.169547.0.html

as for your emulation; you'll need the I7 quad core at minimum so you're right in that regard; and more ram wouldn't hurt either....
the choice is yours as to whether you think the fps difference is worth it; if it were me - I don't think it is. You don't run games heavy enough to warrant the extra power. go for £999 asus

Alright wait for a sale it is then. Thanks fam

I was gonna buy one that got reduced to €500 during a sale, but they insisted that I should get one that won't be junk in a few years. So they offered me £700 to get a better laptop.

But I also wanna play games like dark souls 3, or witcher3, or horizon zero dawn on pc. I wanna switch to pc gaming basically.
How well will the 1060 version play these games compared to the 970M?

Low would normally be things such as hearthstone, which have lower graphic card demands. Mid tends to be most mmos and mobas (dota and league are moba), because they have semi higher graphic card demands do to spell effects. High is things such as Assassins creed, Witcher series ect. These have extremely high graphic card demands, due to things such as spell effects, shadowing, light effects, textures ect.
