    In a CN novel, what are the followers of a master that are not recognized as his disciple called? I know there are something like Core Disciples, Inner Disciples, Outer Disciples,...
    What about those who just want to learn and follow the master but get no recognition by the sect?

    Edit: A disciple is someone who learns and is being taught by a teacher who they referred to as "Master", but if you're master is part of a sect, it is commonly seen that you join it (I don't see why you wouldn't; if you fear limited freedom than either not accept that master or make sure you know the rules).

    Retainers is just a nicer way to call someone a servant (although there's nothing wrong with the latter).

    I actually don't know what you call a disciple of a master yet not a disciple of the master's sect. Just call them disciples?

    The order is legacy disciples to whom the master teaches EVERYTHING. then are registered disciples that just gets taught. after that is in-name-disciples who might only get pointers from the master oonce in a blue moon and then comes the random dude who he correct on his posture

    the disciple you refered to before is the in name disciple. When i said "random dude" i mean a guy he gives a piece of advice to then they share a beer and part ways forever
