    Hi!
I've been lurking in the forums more often than not, and often leeching off free novels hehe.
    I think it's time i contributed a little to the community :c
Not sure if this is the right place tho
So i'm looking for a novel to translate, i have no preferences as to what genre i would like to translate, but i have to like the novel first!

    A little background on myself.
I'm currently doing an internship in a manufacturing company.
Recently, I have started to translate documents, contracts etc. from Chinese to English and i was like hey! Maybe i can translate some books too and improve on my Chinese.

Anyways that's it from me hehe.

TDLR; Looking for a CN novel to translate.

Disclaimer: I can prolly commit 1-2 chapters a week :C sooo yeaaah
    Just saying. hehe

So please recommend some novels xD.

Pick a title you're interested in if you're doing it for the long term.

Translate Shrouding the Heavens. Its about a group of college students being accidentally transported off planet to a world of cultivation.
The cultivation in this novel is really complicated and it would probably help in sharpening your translation skills.
Not to mention it is a really fun and interesting read.

@blee8 is recruiting translators for a super laid back and chill translation group!

    As for what to translate.........
    1. What types of stories do you like?
    2. How much motivation do you have, and how long do you think you'd be able to keep up translating?
I'm a translator myself, so here's an idea of what I usually think about I look for novels to translate.
    • I don't have a lot of free time, and I know I can only translate 1 chapter a week on average.
    • I want to be able to pick up projects that I'm confident I can see myself finishing.
    • I get very demotivated if a project I'm doing has really long chapters, so I prefer novels with shorter chapters.
    • My Chinese isn't amazing, so I can only read modern Chinese comfortably (wuxia/xianxia too hard for me yo!)
Given all these criteria, picking up a 100+ web novel is completely out of the question. It'd take me more than two years to finish it, and I know I don't have that kind of attention span. XD

So normally I go on my favorite webnovel site (jjwxc, sfacg, zhongheng, etc) and go browsing tags and doing advanced searches. I keep the things I like and exclude the things I don't like (I usually filter for completed projects). jjwxc is nice for me because it tells me to the word count for each novel, which roughly gives me an idea of how long the series is.

I click around and give them a read.

If there's one I really like, I read it to the end.

After spending some time looking around, right now I'm translating a nice, short, 20 chapter fantasy project about dragons. It's great to do short projects because I know I should be done with this project by the end of the year, and it keeps me motivated and eager to keep translating because the finish line is in sight! If this is your first time translating something, I recommend doing something like this! Once you've completed a mini-project like this, you'll have gained a lot of experience, and you'll know your own limits and habits a lot better!

The most important thing though is to translate something that you like!

    Woah thanks man!
    Really appreciate it.
Yeah I get what you mean by modern Chinese. I'm on the same boat! Haha
The Chinese used in wuxia/xianxia is difficult to understand

I think I'll take your advice on the short projects! Thanks!
