Besides the run of the mill sword, spear bow type weapons, what are your favorite uncommon weapon to write fight scenes with? Along with that any two weapons that you find fun putting up against each other?

I read quite a while ago an infinity novel where the MC mainly used stick or whip (depending on which was better against the enemy) and used whip martial arts in combination with the spell whip from Marvel.

Can't remember what the novel was called though, sorry.

A very cool option for an assassin character, hidden blades in general can make for lots of suprising twists. Like pulling a knife out of an umbrella randomly in the middle of a fight to suprise an attacker.

ooo a whip def seems like a fun topic to dabble with, lots of utility aswell as various ways to deal damage with it such as restraint or tripping someone by pulling their foot out from under them.

A war fan is kinda cool, you could have a smaller one disguised as a normal hand fan to take around incognito.

I also quite like the weight on one end of a rope and on the other end a blade or hook. Forget what its called, but if you are proficient in it, it can be both highly deadly as well as incredibly useful.

(Of course there is also the immortal and magnificent, ever handy, mighty brick)

I haven't really written any combat scenes (I haven't even written enough of a story to get there, instead focusing on world-building & developing a new world whenever inspiration strikes), but there are a few interesting, but unused, weapons I would like to incorporate into my major character's combat styles if I did end up writing.

    1. Dueling Shields - A large two-handed shield that's center is an oblong that's is, at minimum, around the size of the wielder's torso. May have large hooks made from the shield portion of the weapon that can be used to deflect weapons or hook limbs. It is wielded along a singular shaft that goes down and beyond the length of the shield, with a decent length following that's forms a stabbing point on either end, akin to being wielded by a thick javelin.

    2. Puppets & Other Remote Controlled Weaponry - The idea of directly controlling something to fight through isn't explored enough by major character's in fiction. It pops up in enemies every now and again, but few actually explore it, and, when they do it's as an accessory instead of a focus. Same goes for fighting with weapons that can be controlled to fly through the air independently of the user's physical location. Sure, they pop up every now and again, but few stories focus on people who do so for any reasonable amount of time.

    3. Warhammers were popular weapons that don't actually show up in fiction. Oh, "Hammers" show up, sure, but they come in two flavours, neither of which being the historical Warhammer. The first flavour is the Smith's Hammer, a broad-headed tool used as a weapon because it's on hand, convenient and the wielder knows it well, usually because the user is also a smith as their main or secondary profession. The second is the "Lump of Metal", something that's called a "Hammer" but is treated as if it's a lump of metal on a stick, and you may call into question if the stick exists, or if it's a lump of metal with a handle groove. Sure, Thor's Mjolnir is also a "Lump of Metal" in this arguement, but the mythology has that being because Loki screwed up the forging of the handle, making it too short. And, even then, I wouldn't call Mjolnir a Warhammer, closer to a failed Smith's Hammer. Actual Warhammer's are about the length of a forearm to hand, have a head usually with a hammer side & a pick side, and MAY have a stabby point above. They're designed for fighting against armoured enemies, and the hammer size may not even be FLAT. They're also typically one-handed weapons, though pole-arm variants that have a longer shaft do exist.

First two parts of JoJo were basically what crazy shit could you do with stuff on hand when infusing it with breath generate energy(Hamon).

Radar(wine in glass), killing field (fucking bubbles man), quartering(rope),........

Ranma 1/2 was all about the most bullshit ways characters of said world made martial arts (gymnastics, fine dining aka chopsticks, mining with a finger instead of pickaxe,........).

Even Fairy Tail has something. Lucy summons her spirits with keys, where Aquarius needs her key and a body of water to come out. And Lucy later can use outifts, so called star dresses to emulate powrrs of her summons.

A character from Toriko used his lungs and a straw (yeah), another stored monster insect eggs in his body and fired them at his enemies like hot weapons/slash summoning,......

Your imagination is your limit really.

Actually, dual Knives/Daggers. There's a lot of 'that one character's that use them, but it's almost never the MC. Even a lot of other unconventional weapons get explored in some novel or the other, but for daggers, even when an MC uses them it's never their main weapon or they have other powers which make it so that the daggers almost never need to be used. It's sad to see almost all assassin MCs going around with short swords. What happened to knives?

Grimgar. Knife, dagger, sap, classical rogue weapons that work or are used in rpgs are showcased in this light novel.

Its switched around because the MC is an adventurer in a party so outside the sword wielders like warrior, everyone else needs to adjust to weapons they can find or buy rather than getting custom stuff.

Instead of trying to find uncommon weapons, why not weaponize tools that people in your story possesses? For example, one of my greatest idea is the fishing rod. The hook can act like a whip, but instead of dealing blunt damage, it deals small slashing damage. The purpose is not for killing people, but to make them shed blood, for tracking or applying blood magic on top of it. The thread can act like normal thread, which can be used to behead people, and when you bind people with it and combined with the hook, it can unleash an ultimate slashing damage. For the pole, top of it can be sharpened to make a lance out of it. It can be used to defend against opponents who escape from the thread and the hook.

With that in mind, you can use everything to become weapons. Magnifier glass, papers, table, desk, chair, etc. Anything. If you brainstorm a bit, it will be cooler than normal weapons.
