For me its sometime because I search by the tag in NU and usually the tag that I want to read didn't have any Jp novel. And if there is one when I read the description, usually it kinda make me go nah maybe later its not the one I want to read. But if the description is okay then I read the novel.

Yes, I dropped it at chapter 43 and rated it with one star.

I like questionable/vile MCs but I draw the line when it comes to rape, bestiality, and other perversions, especially when it’s excused with “it happens to bad people”.
Not to mention that I take my porn quite seriously and MC would have been severely hurt or bled to death after his first time with ML, going past a certain internal anatomical region always results in heavy injury, there has been more than one death for this very reason.

So, sadly, it didn’t change my mind, it added to the bad impression I already had of Japanese BL.

I'm currently trying The Corporate Slave because the somewhat unique setting seems interesting… we’ll see how it goes.

Japanese BL is great~! There's nothing quite like a great JP to cleanse your palate after reading a thousand CNs.

Not a lot of CN BLs have truly supportive romance dynamics, so it's such a joy to feast on puppy-dog love stories like "Picked Up a Strange Knight", or get a breath of sanity from "Kiss the Black Cat".

And "No. 6" still holds the title of "greatest novel on NUF" for me.

I've never read a japanese danmei, nor did I ever cross over one. Sure would love some suggestion, tho...

I do read and mtl jp bl often. I'm actually not really picky whether it's jp/cn/kr, as long as I dig the plot ‎‎‎(❁ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)

hm, this is actually something i haven’t noticed before, but i think you’re correct that there’s way less jp bl. tbh, korean novels in general are getting more popular with the rise of manhwa, and cnovels just have a massive selection. also i’ve actually only read bl ch, because danmei has a huge presence

Most of japan light yaoi novel aren't interesting enough compared to yaoi manga. I read lot of those but my favourite is Seven Days, the chapters are not too long and cute enough
Aside of that, I prefer to read yaoi fanfic (and I also wrote those shipping yaoi fics)

Not really, I'm more of a genre reader instead of the geographical typologist. I mean as long as its dick meets dick I'm cool with it, tho I guess there are differences between yaoi and danmeis, for one, danmei got way waaaay more rich family that rules X city or Y city which gets ridiculous quite fast but overall? I don't notice much difference

I have two main reasons for avoiding them.

    1. The settings/plots usually don't interest me much. I like fantasy or historical settings and don't particularly like real world/modern time ones and from what I've seen, the translated Japanese BL that are available are usually more of the latter.. All those Wuxia/Xianxia settings just really scratch that itch for me in comparison.

    2. A lot of Japanese novels seem to be written in 1st person and I don't really like that.

To be honest, seeing this thread, I just realized that Japanese BL novels existed. For the most part, I feel that they're just never talked about...

Google translate works a lot better for Chinese than Japanese. As long as it's a modern story I can understand basically any Chinese webnovel directly out of google even though I only understand English. Also, as someone else mentioned, the names are very weird if the Japanese webnovel is in a European setting. The ML may be named Claire. The mc's last name may be Boyardee. Another problem for me is food-oriented stories. In Chinese novels it's food I've never had before, but Japanese people eat a lot healthier, so the new foods that shock and amaze the Europeans tend to be stuff like "salad", "soy sauce", or "red bean paste".

In the end I might as well just read the manga.

Got read Japanese Bl novels, but it's quite troublesome when looking for the raws and not understanding the language at all. In the end, need to wait for the translation, which sometimes could take months. In CN novels, I can just read the raws.

Japanese bl novels are a thing??? I've mostly seen JP bl manga, but I don't think I've read a single JP bl novel.
Now that I think about it, its mostly korean or CN. Or maybe I have read some but didn't realize it was JP cuz i got used to str8 JP.

Thank you for opening this topic, imma check them out!!!

The only JP BL I've read is Hako no Naka, I Want To Enjoy A Country Life!, and Kimi no Shiawase wo Negatteita as far as I can remember and the rest are manga(s) and anime(s). I like it but doesn't really prefer reading it. I prefer JP manga(s) rather than novels.

This might be controversial but I personally find most Japanese prose I've read god-awful. Maybe because I'm a native English speaker with no experience in the Japanese language, but in my personal experience Chinese prose feels of a much better quality than Japanese prose and Japanese conversation which tends to flow poorly, lack in good description and place excessive emphasis on introspection over outward action. I'm sure it all sounds great to a Japanese person but to me it feels very juvenile, awkward, boring and hard to read. Like other people have said, Japanese BL also tends to feel cliché with uninteresting or underdeveloped characters and plots.

I'm disliking the fanservice Jpn novel/manga alw put there, either for BG genre, or BL. I feel like, there's a whole lot of fetishism they portray there and sometime it felt so yuck.

I guess it depends on the markets too. Compared with chinese, japanese culture and most of the things are strange for someone who is not really interested(?) in that area i guess.
Because personally, i feel like that. I am trying to expand my territory to japanese entertainment industry for sometimes but I just kept being brought back to china and korea.:sushi_sigh:
