I like to listen to Background music in anime and games (movies too, but it is so hard to search for one). I have a dislike on love songs, and majority of the song in my country is about that. That's why to this day I prefer to hear songs from foreign language that I couldn't understand the lyrics of. Other than that, jazzy piece maybe?

No dark music thread is complete without some death metal.

Evil, cosmic metal from the new Haiduk album 'Exomancer'.

I guess I would call myself an "instrumental elitist", since I basically don't listen to songs aside from very few exceptions. If it's about music to listen to while writing it probably depends a lot on what you're writing, I usually listen to music that's similiar to these while writing:

It helps because it’s like their sadness resonates with yours, yes?
And you can feel that you aren’t alone in your sadness.

Actually, I'm quite fond of Chinese instrumental music, can you recommend some good sad ones with flute or guzheng?

Kikuo, NGC 3.12, and PinocchioP! That's all I need apart from VGM. Regarding genres... hmmm—
    Anything EDM/Orchestral (more or less.)
