    Description:
    " A year at most.”

For the sake of revenge, I lived for over ten years wearing the mask of a villainess.

I’ve completed all preparations for my final step and ready to go into exile, but my time is running out!

‘I can’t die unjustly like this.’

There was only one way to cure myself. Consuming a small amount of a rare flower found in the imperial palace every day.

“Please propose to me, Your Highness.”

“What will I gain by marrying the princess?”

“I will place everything in Cassian under Your Highness’s control.”

And so, I succeeded in a contract marriage with Crown Prince Julion, allowing me to cure my illness…

However, wait, why are there so many sick people in the palace?

As a physician and a pharmacist, I can’t simply ignore the sick, so I decided to help a little.

Yes, I was certainly planning to help just a little.

“Princess Consort, tell me whatever you want.”

“I dedicate this very body to protecting you, my Vizier!”

“I shall name you Princess Consort, the Light of the Empire.”

… When I came to my senses, I had become the Light of the Empire.

Hold on a moment, I was supposed to cure my illness and then go into exile

    * * * * *

    Eventually, Julion found me.

His golden eyes shimmered like a candle in the breeze as he looked down at me.

“Did you mean to sacrifice everything, to live for others, and then… hide away where no one knows and face death alone?”

Clear drops of water welled up in Julion’s eyes.

Too stunned to say anything, he whispered through his tears.

    “Please stay alive, Rohiriel.”

So, how many times do I have to tell you that I’m cured before you believe me……?

MTL - might have some inaccuracies but will summarise to the best of my abilities
FL suspects something is wrong with the medicine empress is being given. She asks the empress's maid in waiting if she knew what symptoms empress has been complaining of.

The lady was like no, I won't disclose it to an outsider like you. But FL suspected something's amiss bc of her tone and how hostile she gets around empress's illness. She asks her name. The lady in waiting is related to Count Kermer.

She marches to the royal infirmary to investigate.

Meanwhile, we have a POV of Ares complaining about how he's feeling unwell despite and is ashamed because it's his first day of work.

FL arrives at the infirmary, gets confronted by the physicians. She asks to see empress's medical history records. The chief physician knew what FL did for Hermion at the wedding, but was looking down on FL.

That was when there was an emergency bc they found FL's knight Ares passed out.

Chief physician does a diagnosis, he sees haemoptysis (i.e. the person coughed up blood), and says it is from pneumonia from physical stress and overworking. And wanted to start administering treatment.

FL was like, no wait. And she checks Ares's pupils. They were abnormal, a sign of drug addiction/withdrawal. (There is the name of the drug, but it kept changing due to MTL so let's call it K).

She said, no you have to give Ares the antidote to K drug. But while her maid goes back to her palace to retrieve some, she needs to give K to Ares to reduce symptoms.

Physicians were like no, K is toxic and dangerous.

FL: it's dangerous if you never had exposure to it but in this case, he needs K to stop withdrawal symptoms.

    Ares starts actively seizing.

FL was about to give more of K drug.

Chief physician was like wait, if you give this to him and he doesnt get better, I want you to apologise to me.

FL: ok. What about you? What will you do if it shows you were wrong all along, and you've insulted the crown princess?

Chief physician: *speechless, only now realising he was rude towards royalty* i will do anything u say.

    FL gives K to Ares.

Following few chapters - Sorry, I forgot which exact chapters

    - Chief Physician found guilty of colluding with Empress's maid. Empress was suffering from vision loss because she was staying indoors caring for the sick Emperor for years. The disease could have been treated by going outdoors, but the Chief Physician has been prescribing toxic eye drops which is making the Empress's vision loss permanent. Head maid (Blanche Kamer) was in control of the Empress's palace and the funds because Empress can no longer do daily chores. She has been steadily stealing funds and redirecting them to Count Kamer household.
    - FL finds out, drugs Chief Physician in his tea to make him blind the same way Empress was. Then drag him in front of the Empress, force him to use the same eye drops he prescribe the Empress. Chief Physician shit himself scared, denying and giving excuses. Empress mad, commands Chief Physician to be prisoned. But at this point, she doesn't suspect her maid yet.
    - FL starts treatment for Empress. She gives eyedrops which will help recover sight but be painful for empress. FL gives painkillers to help ease the pain. But Empress always complained of pain. Maid criticises FL, saying there is no improvement in vision and she is just harming empress.
    - FL uses medical techniques from her mother's native country, which is more advanced, but widely rejected as it is from a "defeated nation". Things like needles, syringes and blood drawings are frowned upon. FL asks if she can use it on Empress. Empress relents.
    - FL notices Blanche Kamer (maid) has dirtied sleeves and (a particular type of) grass stains dress hems. She thinks this is weird, and makes a note of it.
    - Working day and night was FL's routine, she worked to fix Empress's sight, worked to heal Ares (knight who passed out from drug toxicity), worked to heal Hermion (who was still unconscious after throwing egg at FL during her wedding). Although prince and FL would often meet up for dinner, she started skipping them. Prince realised that, felt unhappy and goes to FL. They eat picnic on palace grounds. She remembers the stains on Blanche's dress and asks the prince if he knows where that particular grass can be found in the palace. Upon hearing answer, FL gets suspicious that Blanche might get up to something to do with the Chief Physician who is currently detained in the prison. Both run towards prison.
    - Chief Physician found poisoned, fortunately FL and prince arrived in time. FL starts resuscitation.
    - News spread that Chief Physician died in prison. FL mentioned this to Empress, and told her that he mentioned "36" before he died.
    - That night, Blanche sneaks into Chief Physician's room, and started looking for 36th book from top down in the shelf. But it was empty.
"Looking for this?" FL appears from behind, holding the accounts book - containing transactions of how he was bribed by Blanche. FL told Blanche to admit her guilt. Blanche refuses, instead tells FL if she works with her, she'll make FL's palace life a smooth sailing. However, FL denies. Blanche gets physical, but FL was trained in basic self-defence bc she's a Cassian family member. Blanche started throwing things, FL deflected or caught them. It got noisy, Prince barged thru the door and detained Blanche on the spot.
    - He notices FL's hand was burnt after catching candle with open flame. He gets angry, FL soothes him. "It doesn't hurt. It's okay." This is bc FL literally lost her sense of touch from her illness.
    - Blanche arrested, but instead of admitting guilt she is adamant on having a court trial to prove innocence. This is to draw things out as long as she can. However, she can be prosecuted immediately if 3 witnesses come forth to confess. FL warns Blanche, you have a choice here. Blanche sneers.
    - Until 3 ppl were really brought forward. 1 was the Chief Physician himself who Blanche thought she killed, but FL managed to save. Another was a man who knew about Blanche's wrongdoings bc he was the one who supplied poison to kill Chief Physician. (I think, I'm not too entirely sure about this one bc MTL is a bit patchy). Third one is errand girl who Blanche uses to make dealings with Chief Physician, sending money, gold and jewellry via her. Blanche is prosecuted. Chief Physician sent for physical labour in mines. Count Kermer disowns Blanche. Later claims they have nothing to do with her actions bc they disowned her.
    - Empress is gutted about Blanche's betrayal, she gets a new maid. Turns out she's been needing painkillers cuz Blanche has been using a candle which negates all medicinal effect when inhaling it.
    - FL treats Empress. She gets to see again, everyone's happy. Empress asks FL, what do you want as a reward? FL answers - I would like to examine and treat the emperor.

This is an interesting story. It has similarities to Roxana/The Way to Protect the Female Lead's Brother.

The female lead, Rohiriel, is deeply traumatized by her past and her family situation, so she weaponizes her knowledge to an autistic degree and comes off like a idiot savant where medicine and poisons are concerned. She treats almost everyone like a patient and thinks clinically about all things. Her childhood trauma almost killed her emotions.

Every single one of her treatments takes time, none of them are instant healing or miraculous.

She's also hell bent on taking down the Cassian Duchy, who may or may not be the reason for the collapse of her mother's kingdom and subsequent concubinage at the duchy. Rohiriel is just as ruthless and cunning as Roxana when it comes to the destruction of the dukedom and the main house.

The translations are up to chapter 31 this will be a general outline of events up to chapter 121. Some events are possibly out of order. Also there is time between chapters anywhere from days, to weeks, to months. Nothing is instantaneous.

    - as if Chapter 31, the empress is mostly healed and can see again.

    - the empress grants the examination.

    - Rohiriel goes from clinical interest (and to thwart the Cassian Duke's plans) to "on a mission" when she is finished the examination...because the illness is poisoning and it was the same poison Cassian used on her mother.

    - Rohiriel is trying to puzzle out the symptoms and find a solution with her knowledge for poisons, herbs and "alchemy" (chemistry, for those who don't know victorian terms for medicine creation).

    - Rohiriel notes that it's a pity that all medical knowledge was suppressed and virtually erased after the fall of her Mother's Kingdom. Hence why the current medical practices are more about class, politics, and very antiquated.

    - the empress throws a spring ball.

    - Julion attends with Rohiriel and asks for her first dance.

    - Roxys (Rohiriel's main tormentor and possible Cassian Heir) attending and Yefua (another of Rohiriel's other open tormentor when she lived in Cassian). Both are trying to take advantage of Rohiriel's current position and treat her like a puppet to jump and obey them at their word. She is not a person to them. She is a slave and an asset to be used and abused.

    - a tower in the castle is on fire during the event.

    - Hemion, the girl who threw an egg at Rohiriel at her wedding and was treated for poisons by Rohiriel was Roxys target.

    - Hemion was gone by the time Julion and Rohiriel made it back to her princess "Garnet" palace.

    - Liliana, Rohiriel's other tormentor, showed up at the palace to "check on the situation"...

    - Julion is busy investigating on top of his imperial duties

    - Duke Cassian is playing his children against each other.

    - The empress becomes more proactive as she improves and begins taking control of the social scene and events again.

    - Julion takes care of Rohiriel between his duties, making sure she eats and overall keeping an eye on her to make sure she is taking care of herself (which she neglects)

    - Rohiriel and Julion get into a fight because she collapses from a side effect of her treatment and he thinks she isn't taking care of herself (which she doesn't).

    - Rohiriel's collapse also make Julion suspicious about what is going on with her...this makes him more protective.

    - the people around the palace use Rohiriel as there go to treatment provider/doctor which ties her up and makes her busy

    - Rohiriel is bad at explaining herself and further convinces Julion that she's putting on a brave face to cover that something is wrong. Her habit of saying "she's fine" is backfiring on her. She and Julion fight again...sort of. This "fight" results in them not talking for a few weeks.

    - Outdoor boating event arranged by the Empress where another half sister, Yefua, tries to blatantly murder another countess...and blame it on Rohiriel
    - countess falls in the water
    - Rohiriel jumps in after her after she suspects the countess was having an allergic reaction to the water lilies
    - Rohiriel and her maid end up saving the countess
    - Yefa is suspected, investigated and imprisoned.

    - Julion had been monitoring the situation from afar, providing discreet protection. He's frustrated at the situation and goes to check on Rohiriel himself...and both investigate the incident.

    - Rohiriel collapses.

    - Julion is massively unhappy about the situation pretty much camps out in the garnet palace to watch over Rohiriel.

    - Rohiriel recovers.

    - Rohiriel sets a trap for the girl

    - Julion returns to Garnet palace and turns a part of it into his office. His assistants are unhappy with him because it is out of the way.

-Julion continues to keep a watchful eye over Rohiriel to make sure she is taking care of herself

    - Rohiriel continues to treat the emperor

    - Rohiriel sets traps for the other "legitimate" children

    - Liliana's victim Countess Ribolane, saved by Rohiriel (at the boating incident) asks the princess (out of desperation) to save her brother (who was poisoned by Rohiriel's half sister who is fighting for the heir position)

    - Rohiriel continues to treat the emperor.

    - the emperor dies.

    - Rohiriel applies to the empress to rry to treat the emperor, the entirety of the nobility protest. This prolongs the process.

    - Rohiriel applies her knowledge from her mother's poisoning case to save and revive the emperor

    - Cassian goes back to regroup and plot.

    - the emperor reveals that he was poisoned because of the knowledge he has...that Cassian is using poisoned bugs to threaten the nobility. Essentially undermining and usurping the throne, and controlling the empire as a a defacto shadow emperor, turning the bloodline family into powerless figureheads. If the emperor died, Cassian's control would be absolute and his plan would be complete.

    - Julion investigates the traitor amongst the palace guards as they could be the only perpetrators of the Emperor’s poisoning, this ties him up at the Emperor’s palace

    - the Duke broke into the Garnet castle to directly order/threaten Rohiriel. He warned her against moving against him

    - Julion is incredibly unhappy to hear that Rohiriel was again threatened in the palace, supposedly the safest place in the empire.

    - Rohiriel's trap is sprung on Roxys...and the Cassian Dukedom

    - the aristocracy protest...which Julion is handling

    - Rohiriel sets up a trap for Yefua

    -Rohiriel is ambushed by Roxys.

    - the confrontation with Roxys ended with the Crown Prince getting poisoned and Rohiriel trying to save him, their escorts and maids from Roxys poisoning. It's a new poison made with herbs from Rohiriel's mother's fallen kingdom.

    - Julion's poisoning galvanizes the empress to personally seizes the Cassian Duchy and faces off against the Duke.

    - He threatens the Empress with Rohiriel because she is a "Cassian".

    - the search party finds a locked room. Inside is a mysterious "apothecary".

I deliberately left a lot of key pieces of information and events out. Have fun reading if you're curious enough...
