I love how everyone believes Van is capable of taming the "high" rank monsters and they simply don't care. Darcia and crew debating how best to stretch out the fight is hilarious.
It's not that they don't care, since they do seem very interested. However, they can't really question him super hard about it because they are busy trying to not all die, since the situation seems hopeless (since they don't know about Van and his companions' true strength).

If i recall, Van is a bit to slow moving, or cautious, for that. make them dependent then drop the "I could conquer your territory in a day, and have time to re-build everything after lunch, but do not want to feel like doing so" bombs.
I mean those kind of bombs only drop by accident and implication with Van. He tries really, really hard to be likable and unthreatening. Just he’s got that whole facial paralysis thing going on plus his “Phenomenal Cosmic Power,” situation to deal with. Yep Aladdin reference. Robin Williams for the win on that one.

The funny thing is, I don't think Van wants attention. He wants to be 'popular' and 'rich' because of his traumas from Earth, but Van doesn't really wish to be well known. Him wanting to be popular, but not attract attention is probably why all the Gods, Reincarnators, and Vampires spying on him are all like, "What the heck is he doing!?" It's because his two main goals contradict each other.
Another aspect of it that the only really understood end goal Van has is his happiness. The fact that a lot of the major powers want to prevent that is what pushes a vast majority of events to even happen.
It is true, others are how he wants people to love him but not to adore him and how he does not want to get along with some or even stay distant from people but he cannot help helping or treating them well Funny thing, whenever I read the translator it turns Van into a furgoneta, a type of vehicle, and the most curious thing is that that term is not even used in my country
