In the areas where you have to be the most concerned, it's likely you have weapons anyway in America. (I grew up in the country and we never lack for guns) And as far as stocking up, while it's always a good idea if you can to prepare for the worst, it's probably an over reaction to the problem. Just be aware of your surroundings, and do what you can. But don't worry about it so much you ruin your days.

Glad to have you americans between me and them lol, if it starts targeting humans I’d hopefully get a couple of weeks warning before I’d have to consider bunkering up. Until we know more I’m certainly not going to worry about it.

Is not rabbies is an actual zombie disease if you want to put it simple, is a skin degenaration as well and brain one that is impossible to detect until is too late, is a silent deadly disease that can be inside the host for years before manifesting, it spread to a lot of deers and just this year it started showing signs, and it's not new. The first case was around 1960-1980 I think.
And yes it can be passed to Humans, so for the love of everything that is sacred DO NOT EAT DEER MEAT!
You have absolutely zero idea if that deer is already infected.

Its is actually the mad cow disease but for deer. It is caused by prions that are in the grass. It becomes part of the genetic make up of grass and vegetation and gets transferred to animals that eat it.

It's basically Kuru for deer. So pretty much we just gotta stop eating venison for now and it'll be alright. If I recall correctly, it's a Prion disease, not a virus.

EDIT: For clarity's sake, Prion diseases don't spread by contact or through the air, you have to eat the malformed proteins to introduce them into your body before they can trick your body into replicating them. It's like slipping a bad blueprint into the stack an architect made just before it's given to a work crew. Then they build the building all fucked up and it collapses.

Don't know why people call it a virus but scientist aren't calling it a virus. I was looking up prions a couple years ago and found out plants can get it to as they found deer containing a condition similar to mad cow disease. They found that the prions attach to the genetic make up off grass from contaminated carcasses. Basically, no one is safe from dementia causing prions which kind of sucks. They did mention probability of transmission is low though

    You're such a cranberry @Ai chan

Damn, am already dying... or am I undead and just haven't realized it yet... I've been eating dear meat for more years then I can remember. Have no intention of stopping either. Who wants to help me kick off the zombie apocalypse? We might meet up and I'll try gnawing on your head xD then soon there after we can head to the bar, pick up and few chicks and gnaw on them too. Should be lots of fun xD
