The cold-heartedness and lack of concern for human life sometimes portrayed in these novels can be really hard to stomach. Humor helps to make things more palatable but at the moment this one is making me feel blah.
I'm more interested in knowing whether the 3rd sister (the one who has a good relationship to MC) got together with the 7th prince (the one who is said to be gentle and immortal-like)?
What ?? So the three of them became a wangfei ? Was that even allowed ? I mean the 3rd and 4th sisters were not even the main wife daughters how come they became wangfei ?
No. Yu Heng wanted her mother to be free from the marriage, and so she requested a letter of separation for her mother from the emperor in advance. She was eligible for a merit reward for her contributions towards the kingdom and she especially request that edict for her mother. It is her mother's decision to accept or refuse the royal edict of marriage dissolution.. She accepted that edict..so her mother was the first woman to divorce her husband in that story.
In the later chapters she became well-behaved. After finding out that her mother.s baby was from an illicit tryst with the opera actor..she was so mad that she almost kill the baby.. She was carrying the baby when she found out and she wanted to throw the baby to the ground!!
oh my goodness thats so cruel.. she was so young & still had vicious thoughts... its good that she mended her ways. Chen Yu had a brother (if i remember correctly..or i m mixing up 2 stories..) what happened to him?
ikr!! concubine born would get that position.. i guess in the end either 3rd sister's or 4th sister's mother became the headwife... just guessing.. as Yu heng's mother divorced her father. so one of the sister became an eligible candidate.
@a_b Her father married a widowed princess from the north country that is under the subjugation of their kingdom. She brought with her her willful daughter and became the 1st wife. The empress also "gifted" her 2 orphaned nieces to Yu Heng's father as concubines of the 1st rank. They were there to spy on the activities of that household. It was actually Ninth prince's plan. In later chapters the princess and her daughter were killed by the ninth prince on reason of espionage and treason. Her father was spared on account of Yu Heng being his daughter. After the death of the princess, the older of the two nieces of the empress became the head wife. By the way, the 2 nieces were sisters, and the younger one also became the #2 head wife. And of course, Yu Heng's father was dropped from grace as well.....he was stripped of his position and title.
If you read the story, you will find that this emperor is a very strict and jovial person at the same time.. ninth prince's mother is his only love. After taking her in as concubine, he stopped his visits to the other concubines in his harem. He met ninth prince's mother while he was lost in the mountains and he told her that he wasn't married..and of course after he brought her to the palace, she was furious and since everything is already "cooked", she stayed. She was mistreated by the previous empress at one time and after she gave birth to ninth prince, she voluntarily confined herself in her own palace and forbid the emperor to visit or see her. In over twenty years, the emperor never hear or saw her face. Almost everyday he went to the gate of her palace shouting for her but she never responded. It was only through her maid that messages were past to each other. The emperor loved his ninth son very much and he was waiting for him to take over so that he can abdicate and leave with his mother to roam the kingdom..! The previous empress was sentenced to death and this current empress is smart enough not to demand for the emperor's affection; she kept to her status and role as empress and never interfere with the emperor's love life. She is also on the side of the ninth prince. So with this background, you'll understand why the emperor allows Yu Heng's concubine-born sisters to marry his sons as legal wife...and besides the 5th prince is a widower because his legal wife died too. As far as I know, 3rd sister didn't marry the 7th prince because she knows that she cannot be his match...but she is on a bickering friendship with the 4th prince. 4th prince was sentenced to life imprisonment and stripped-off of his royal status when he colluded with the 3rd prince to usurp the throne..He was punished to learn embroidery work while being imprisoned and 3rd sister was assigned to be his teacher..that's where their turbulent friendship started. As most stories go, 4th prince fell in love with her but she can't reciprocate because she felt inadequate..but anyway it was hinted at the end of the novel that there was a pledge made by 3rd sis that she will consider his proposal and marry him.
