Just the title, basically. As a reader, I usually only comment if I have something to say, ask, or otherwise... comment on the chapter itself. But that doesn't seem to be the norm, no matter which site you go to; the comments are mostly a slew of thanks. Which I understand, don't get me wrong, not a complaint. Just curious if "Thanks for the chapter" is, from a translators perspective, a comment they like to see, or if they just view it as... empty rhetoric isn't quite right; false gratitude? Maybe an empty platitude would be closer.

As a web novel writer, I appreciate anyone who takes the time to comment. I’d imagine it just depends on the person.

I dunno about translators but as a writer i feel appreciated when ppl stop to say thx in the comments. It is kind of the way you know that readers are actually reading

If I was a translator, the I'll shut the comment section..
Like the word design to comment. Saying "Thanks" ain't a comment.
We need to add a "Thanks button" or something ...

Sorry, but those tags are hilarious, except for that last one. As I'm a reader, I feel that expressing thanks is the right thing to do when there is happiness from receiving something from others.

I used to translate manga and at first, it's quite enjoyable 'cause it shows that people actually appreciate my hard work. Though after a while, I'd rather they comment something about the chapter than having 50% comments all about "thanks for the chapter".

I'm a translator. And I love seeing comments, no matter what kind! I don't really reply too often though. :(

But to answer your question, yes, I do. But I think I'd love conversation-like comments more since I reply to those.

I have a friend who writes in rrl, he said that at the beggining he liked it, but then he started to dislike, because he tought it was some constructive comment but it was just a thanks and he got pumped for nothing..

I am not a translator, however if I were,I would much rather see comments where readers talk about what they felt about the chapters, discussions and maybe guesses about future..rather than about 10 or so people typing the same comment. If one guy tells thank you,it is enough!! TL would much rather see his work making people think!!

I think they would appreciate the gesture, I know I would like that after hard work translating a chapters, but I also would like more comments about the content of the chapter

I enjoy seeing the "Thank you for the chapter" comments.
    Not sure why, though.

Personally I prefer comments relating to the translated chapters because I like to know other's reactions and thoughts.

for translators tbh i just thank them for the hardwork but for writers like on royal road or fiction press i try to comment on my likes and dislikes and what i loved about the chapter. it's different you know? yes, they translate but it's not their work so i can't really give my opinion or criticism. it's not going to do anything. At most correct sentences with mistakes and that's it. I don't really know if there is something better to say. I just make my presence known through thanks so translators know someone actually reads this stuff.

Eheh I didn't think anyone paid attention to tags. Any time I make a thread I put at least two parth tags on it, from back when I was annoyed that I had to come up with tags in order to make a thread. I started to type "pain in the ass" and the auto suggest shows a whole slew of parth tags when you type "pa" so I decided hey, why not.

I'm not a translator, but if I would be, I would be happy about people saying 'thanks'. For me it's about the gesture of appreciating some else work. No matter how short, they still took the time to write an abbreviation, word or even a sentence to express their thanks. How could you possibly not like it?
