Don't worry about it. You should write about something that you find interesting and have good ideas for, don't worry about writing the next big thing about things people are currently interested in. I would assume you are an amateur writer so write about something that you enjoy, something you can see to the end and use it to become ever better. If you aren't i apologize.

I am of the mind that only more experienced writers should go out of their wheelhouse so to say or delve into areas they have little personal interest in. They have more experience and wisdom to draw upon and the confidence to see something that may be a drain on them through to the end from other completed works in their name.

I didn't know about the setting of Mistborn before i read it, but i sure learnt it once i had, don't worry about how many people know of your genre or setting to dictate whether or not you write about something you want to write about.
Write what you want, write it well, and people will read.

    Goodluck!!!

Jianghu/kangho and wulin/murim are NOT interchangeable terms; they're not the same thing.

Who and how did he/she misuse it?

Among the mountain Chinese wuxia and military novels plus other media I've consumed for almost 2 decades, I've never seen any author use the terms incorrectly. That includes fiction written before wulin even existed as a term.

It doesn't matter if readers don't know what it is(noobs), it's obvious from context.

Thanks. I wanted to try writing a modern cultivation novel but it seems impossible now if it has that definition. I always thought Murim meant the entire martial arts world as a whole but if it only means Korea then nvm then

Jianghu/kangho: the most generalised answer is “The part of the world the imperial court doesn’t have direct jurisdiction over.” You are talking about brothels, gangs, bandits, slums, the underworld, rogue disciples from various sects and more. There's no order and rife with crime. It's like taobao, lol.

Wulin/murim: refers to specifically and only to martial arts schools/sects/cults etc. The wulin is considered the refined, respected and virtuous people in society; they're also placed higher on the hierarchy. There's order.

If jianghu is taobao, Wulin is Tmall.
