Discussion Do you think the writing of Shield Hero is bad?

I can't count how much I scratched due to character behaving irrationally (almost everyone beside MC). How the fk they can be that stupid.

First, how they can just accept Naofumi rape accusation while he is also being robbed of his possession. That's not how rapist usually works.

Second, how the fk the kingdom denied Naofumi of using rank up service when they know their survival depends on heroes ability to fend off waves. The previous chapter even established Naofumi as the best when it comes to fighting against the waves.

However...if you think those writing in early chapters are bad... then later chapter ones will drive you nuts (if you have read the WN)

The previous shield hero was a proponent for demi human rights, the king, pope, other high ranking officials are all fucking human supremacist shitheads. So they are actively going out of their way to suppress the protagonist.

 

Not just the previous shield, hmm I mean the Shield Hero was the sole hero of the DemiHumans since the beginning before their land connected to another ones where the other heroes exist

Surprise, I actually have read the novel (web) until several chapter past turtle subjugation, but it's been a very long time since (2 or 3 years maybe). And as I remember, the latter arc was very bad imo.

Now I read manga to reread it again

 

I would rather just say the characters themselves are just dumb. Myne betrayed Naofumi only because he was the shield hero and nobody likes the shield hero other than demi-humans. That is dumb because she and the king screwed over one of their saviors just because he was the shield hero. The other hero are also dumb because they can't think for themselves or that something is right.

Although in the beginning it seems he is treated poorly because the shield is useless, its really all about racism and bigotry. Just imagine if a black man in the early 1900s was accused of rape down south. I'm not saying its good writing, but its a bit more justifiable than many other books I've seen.

 

That kingdom he was summoned to have a religion centered around the Three Heroes while the Shield Hero is the patron of their enemy, the Demihuman kingdom, hence even at that start they never even planned to summon him.

 

I mean, its almost impossible for one to rape somebody then get all his gear and money stolen right after.

The things that the heroes believe makes the public that's around them believe it too.
Any truth or untruth, any feelings towards a person will be unified with the heroes.
So, if someone manages to bring a hero to their side, like that Witch did the spear hero...
That pretty much cements it on it being the truth.

 

Yes, unfortunately the authorities at the scene are the something wrong. It is a rigged trial, and the other heroes are not given all the info, plus are likely being deceived by their party members.
The do not know him, and the accuser, as a cute innocent looking girl, has more cred. Plus why would the soldiers let him get dressed.

Though the forced duel after their first wave is a much bigger failure point for the 3 idiots.

I've read as much of the manga as I could and then the novels and summaries (mostly because I was losing interest in it) and I have to be honest. The story in general is extremely poorly written. The plot just gets boring after a certain point. Honestly it wasn't extremely interesting in the beginning but everything is handled in such a half-hearted, immature manner that when I found out it was getting an anime my first thought was "Why?"
