So just the other day a friend of mine asked me if she should get an e-reader and I feel like some people don’t get the advantages so I just had to open up a thread telling you guys why you should consider getting one, since I feel that for novels that are published on the interwebz there is nothing better. 1. Reading a lot of novels on your phone significantly reduces battery life. 2. Reading over longer periods of time, it’s much more pleasant for the eyes. This was my main reason for buying one in the first place and I was surprised on how good the E-Ink display is for reading. 3. After a few months of having the Reader I realized how much traffic is used for reading novels. Some websites really have traffic intensive ads running. Also if your reading on the go you don’t have to wait 2 mins waiting for the website to load if there is no good internet connection available. I saved somewhere between 100-200mb per month. 4. The battery life of E-Readers is incredible. Some people really underestimate how long you can read without recharging. Of course this depends if you have backlight on or not, but it is possible to read 500 chapters without recharging. Even if you read 12 hours a day you can go serveral days without recharging. I feel like these are the main pro points for E-reader for the NUF community. If you have 60 bucks to spare and you read a lot consider buying an E-Reader. It’s really worth the investment.
Do you copy+paste the novels and make them into a pdf for reading on the e-reader? Because on my reader reading on websites is shit.
First of all you should avoid using pdf's on e-reader since the layout is fixed. Using the .epub file format or on the kindle devices the .mobi format is much better, it also uses up less space. I wrote a script the generates epubs from novels on Wuxiaworld, for everything else I use the chrome extention "webtoepub". EDIT: If somebody is interested, that's the script I wrote Wuxiaworld-2-eBook
I use this one. Works perfectly on most websites and has an easy UI, unlike many other I've used. But I agree, reading epub-books on an E-reader is great, and a lot nicer than mobile/desktop -reading
...I kinda jailbroke my readers, and now they're kinda broken. Wish I just wrote a script like you did.
Thank you, I will defintley try this out, already thought about reading on e-reader, but making the pdfs manual and converting to epub was kind of too much work. This makes this a lot easier. Thanks!
If I wasn't bored to death I would never have written that script. I still have nightmare's of the epub documentation.
*spends more than that in a single day NUFing* ... Meh, the other advantages are all useless anyway... I can keep reading on the sites just fine.
the RSS feed I'm using comes with its own browser with disabled javascript. so, I just read? Not to mention I have airplane mode as the first button on the android shortcut, so I can just stop the connection for the period where I read.
I also love reading using my paperbook but to lazy to convert, download and transfer the ebooks. When using the fone, you just connect to the wifi and open the browser haha
