Well, to me he makes some of them taboo, like the one you just said and some cultivation techniques which makes people who gained benefit from him don't talk about him... As for the rest, everybody is free to talk about it. Thats why when they are gossiping, everybody claim already heard of his existence, just dismiss it as a fairy tale. But I gotta admit, this novel has plenty of forced plot idiocy. How stupid do you have to be to start a war with a guy who could claim to wipe out a sect and actually go through doing it. The worst part is when the sect actually engage itself into revenge battles. Do you really want to die that bad for revenging an idiot?
I think he was less ashamed of being a slave and more ashamed of his role in stealing/studying Merit Laws for the Immortal Demon Grotto to raise Tian Tu to Immortal Emperor and starting the Ancient Ming Era.
Is this a spoiler? I didn't know that what he gave to Immortal demon grotto was being used againts him in that way... If this is true then there are a chance that after he was released, the Immortal demon grotto made some countermeasure againts him rising to become Immortal emperor. btw, why do I feel that his adventure as dark crow would have been more interesting than the current story... Is there any spinoff when he is the dark crow?
Well yea. When he was dark crow, he was invinciblle & eternal. But although he is invincible but not eternal. Besides when he was dark crow he had powerful people following him, but now its a solitary journey although he is collecting followers.
Because it's more interesting. Right now we have more or less the norm for genre: MC is fighting his enemies, looking for treasures and leveling realms with amazing technics. What is different is that he was the one who did all preparations for that, basically he designed his own plot armor. While Dark Crow is a completely another story inside familiar setting (and every new cultivation novel right now feels familiar to me).
Well, nine worlds is his back garden by now and few people can actually beat him if not no one at all. That took the suspense for me. LOL Maybe when he go to the tenth world....

So they tried directly - with some poking to see what kind of old monster will come to protect junior.
