• ML fun fact: the moment he won the bet he immediately processed the marriage papers literally that day. When the went to the graduation ceremony they were already technically married. I don't know everything,, but the bet MC made (or rather,, ML made the bet w/out her constent(?)) w/ her fiance is that:
If he(ml) will still be with MC even after engagement cancellation, she will give him 100 million/thousand(i dun remember) gold coins.
The engagment cancellation was between (probably) some prince n his fianceé,, because of heroine

Spoiler: Heroine

The Heroine, Caroline gives cookies to Rufus and the other male leads in the Otome game. Of course, Rufus, who is vigilant and wary of the heroine, never ate the cookies. Ever since MC told Rufus a "prophecy" that he will meet a cute girl with blonde hair and pink eyes named Caroline, he always wonders why would he just suddenly fall in love then abandon his fiance even though he is a family-oriented type. Also, it is not logical to suddenly annul his engagement.
He visited our MC to tell her about the cookies and that he suspected poison. So they both decided to test it out with a rat. Rufus fed the cookies to the rat and is showing symptoms of illusions, confusion, etc. The cookie was like a love potion. MC thinks the other boys who received the cookies are affected and asked Rufus to create an alibi for the girls who are going through their fiance cheating as she doesn't want them to suffer. ML accepted his precious fiancee's request.

A smart ML if you actually gave him a hint? But seriously, the only reason he was wary to begin with was because the details of OGheroine were so... specific. Why on earth would you eat cookies from a stranger then if it follows OGplot? These other men had fiancees as well

 

Just read till 1.3 translations. The series isn't making it hard to suspect the cookies. I mean, OGbody wasn't wrong if her fiance isn't acting right. He just accepted cookies from a stranger, one that wasn't even tested for poison! And even if the man refused, the heroine had a panel in 1.3 where she lovingly fed the cookie straight to his mouth (granted, the man is already intoxicated with the love potion at this point but still...)
Even for an otome game, I don't mind harem ends if its smut title or the setting actually supports polyandry but worldbuilding dictates that if the heroine decides to choose CP, these men just want to protect her. Are they gonna relinquish their title or something? These men are like high authority once their parents pass the title, you'd think other women other than shallow ones caring for their title would want to be with them when they swore their undying love and loyalty to a married commoner turned noble, much less if these men have terrible reps from their ex fiancees

Chapter begins with Pier getting sick so she takes meds and dreams.

It begins with her violent death then pans over to her academic life.

She is an observer to her Japanese Lab where several archeological heads are being given a presentation by the Ex. This is so he could be awarded a doctoral degree interview in the super competitive archeological field. He is using all the research he stole and gave a near perfect presentation.

The audience asks several questions and then dismisses him. Pier is in turmoil because that was all her hard work he was taking credit for.

The next scene changes to the angry Ex confronting one of the examiners at his interview. Something like:

"Why wasn't I awarded a PhD!"

Pier is shocked too. Was her research rejected? Was it bad? That was all her work...

"Because your stupid." Arai-Sensei replied.

"What?! I worked hard on that, even in my sleep. It was approved by Harayama University!"

"Then you should get a PhD as Harayama."

"I'm not joking. Give me back my time and effort, thief!"

"That's what you have to say?" Arai-sensei leaned his elbows on his desk and propped his chin on his hands, "sometimes I do unannounced tests on my student's research. To see if there is any mischief going on."

"How would I know? I'm not in your lab."

"That's right. The data you quoted in your answers was a lie I fabricated." Arai-Sensei laughed horribly.
