It's funny how Echizen has so much more character development and personality than supposed female lead. She has more chapters from her point of view, more chapters with mentioning of her name and also more showed interaction and connection with MC than supposed female lead. MC actually even one-sidedly tried to talk to her, unlike supposed female lead, whom he was clearly doing his best avoiding.
Major problem of this novel is it even has other female characters. Instead of focusing on development of only one, author tries to give all of them one some cliche trait and somehow connect to MC in a standard Japanese pseudo-harem way, while not having traditional light novel series length. Length = space. This novel has no space for other characters but ML, FL and few supporting.
So who is Mamiko? She is super jealous, super low self-esteem, what else? Well? Oh, good-looking and smart (not). Sorry, no dating her like at all, her mother is right. Mamiko is not even a person up until now. She wasn't given enough time by author to transform into a person.
Instead the author took his time to write about Echizen (s)he clearly like more as potential female lead from half-way into the story and then make it completely pointless by hiding her everything from MC completely. Of course, traditional cliche - in love triangles or other figures wins the first person who met MC. Mamiko met him in grade school or something, so she should get him, boooring.

Wow, Mamiko seriously is a bitch. Only a Japanese beta-character would want to date her after this kind of shit she've just pulled off. Random guy is more decent human being than her.
And what is he aiming to do anyway? To not talk to females from now on and forever? This bitch was getting jealous to the point of ditching him over nothing.
