    Didn't read the whole thread because it was basically nonsense and the same things said over and over by page two, so if this was mentioned, my apologies. But in my experience the "assume everyone is male" rule was established by, and for, well, "internet-dwelling guys with minimal life experience with women". The guys who, regardless of whether circumstances make it appropriate, treat a woman with excess care and attention. Without the "always male until proven" mindset, these guys (and let's be honest, until the last 6 years or so where the net got more and more mainstream, they were a very large percentage of the internet) were both easily taken advantage of by any user pretending to be a woman, and more commonly just embarrassed themselves by fawning over what turned out to be a dude.

    Lol...So true... For me, I did posted as guy in games... Since it's more fun customizing your dream guy avatar on the game... I remember getting lots of pm from 'girls' avatar asking for wedding rings for couple bonus. It's was fun to watch that XD
