I recomend demon wang fei favorite, Stunning Edge, kumo desu ga, The Demoness Is Not Evil, demon king chase, virtous empress, princess wei yang. Chu Wang Fei if u want long drama.
Looking through; the female protagonist is not necessarily the main character sadly :/ Some of them switched POV or its just that there's a strong female lead following the main guy around. True enough; a great place to start but hard to read everything and find a synopsis that does justice.
These are in no particular order: completed: worm by wildbow superhero/villain, one of my favorite reads of all time defection by taulsn supervillain comedy The New Journey of an Old Soul reincarnation, also a mix of eastern and western WIP: taint xianxia'ish but different from the norm Lily ex Machina kinda western, kinda Japanese fantasy Thera of Rose Manor xianxia'ish with tons of comedy A practical Guide to Evil western but more on the side of "evil" Stone Burners urban fantasy featuring the most adorkable dragongirl Void Domain urban fantasy, lots of blood, some gore and giggles Heretical Edge urban fantasy Whisper of the Nightingale xianxia'ish Lament of the Fallen mix between western and mondaiji tachi (atleat at this point, may change)

Well, I recommend it every chance I get, it's IMO an excellent read and should be spread. I don't see why you call it cliche though.
