You should try The Job of an Imperial Concubine, from the title you could probably expect a typical historical novel where in the midst of all the imperial harem drama, the mc falls in love with the emperor and blah blah. No! this novel really made my exceptions for novels of the same genre to rise even higher. the mc is a woman who transmigrates to ancient times and despite being a modern woman she adapts quite quickly whilst fighting off schemes from the other women in the harem. From what I've read so far, the mc doesn't in up falling in love with the emperor nor does she become the master of the harem. This book really stands out and portrays the struggles of women in an imperial harem realistically. Though it probably doesn't fit any of your standards, you should give it a try.
