I remember reading a manga where the mc was like crippled or something (he became a lowly worker) and the higher-ups in the sect gave all of the low workers a metal body defense skill so they could survive the beatings they got.

So the mc ends up getting a "exp bar" of his skill so he knows much exp he needs to get to the next stage of his skill, so he just goes around getting beat up so he can level up his defense skill.

I'm kinda sure the stages go like: copper, iron, steel or something like that
