So... I am translating a novel (link on my signature), and I had a bit of a fun time a few weeks ago, checking it on an aggregator site.

I did that mainly because I started splitting my chapters into parts (easier to motivate myself), but the link to the chapter doesn't change, I only release announcement posts in parts and update the previous link... Guess what? Their chapter link remained outdated, it was funny!

One of their readers probably notified them about it, so they fixed it, they are splitting their chapters in parts as well now... Though it's kinda funny to see "chapter 89.1" and "chapter 89" on it, with the 1st having only the 1st part of my chapter, and the later having the entire chapter.

That was all fine and all, but... Well, I was already checking the chapter and... I was kinda bummed, they removed my footnotes... You know, I really like the footnotes, I spend some time in making them...

Until... I looked a bit more carefully... The footnotes were there! They were there indeed! They just weren't appearing at the end of the chapter... Instead... They were just links in the middle of the text... Links that linked to MY website!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I got free advertisement by an aggregator! Yay me!!!! \(^^)/

... On another aggregator, they removed all links altogether though, so I didn't get these laughs from it... *pouts*

In the end, the biggest bummer is to have the link to the raws removed in all honesty... I mean, really? Can't they make a script that exclude links to syosestu on the link deleting thing of them? It can't be that hard... I would like it if their readers could easily find the raws to the novel I'm translating...

Anyway, I just felt like making this because I had a good laugh at it. What about you? Ever saw any particularly funny thing at aggregators? Share them here!

Personally speaking, don't think that link spams and purposeful typos and mistranslations are nice, because they also get in the way of your own reader, but I suppose some people might have fun sharing a screenshot of the things aggregators copy pasted into their site without looking...

Oh and... This is just for fun, don't go hijacking it into a random discussion of Qidian being an aggregator or whatever, alright? I just want some laughs.

Yeah yeah, good luck on that, so far mangafox is still up and running.

If there was a viable way to fight aggregators, people would've already done it... >.>

I don't visit aggregator sites for novels. Aggregator means that someone is copy pasting (without credit), right?

The thread creator is not a neutral party, I'm 100% biased.

Yep, just like mangafox and other similar sites.

I don't visit them either, but I decided to check them out after I started translating, just to see if I could get a few laughs out of it.

Good luck on the next time!!! >.<

I guess most people don't... Still, it's fun to see when they mess up on the copy paste of your work~

Eh, it didn’t happened with novel, but whenever my manga group edit a chapter and update it, the aggregator sites just keeps posting multiple versions of the same chapter (each ‘version’ is one time my group edit the chapter). It’s kinda funny to read the readers’s comments on the site about that :blobpopcorn:
Btw, I do read on novel aggregator site :notlikeblob:, but only for Q novels :blobowoevil_horns:

I used to have a computer related blog and it had more than a million views. I just did it to kill time and it got big and I liked the popularity so I just continued, taking in requests and answering questions. Talking about softwares, viruses and everything actually. Even if it was something that I didn't understand, some research would easily make me understand.

I never put in any kind of ads, customised the blog so much that no one could say it was a blog and everything looked super good.

Pretty soon I was made aware of the people copying my posts, some were so dumb to include the link going back to my own blog, so their websites were actually redirecting the traffic back to me.

In the end I just shut the whole thing down because I messed with the style too much and lost my backup, it was a great loss but at the best time, I could finally study for my exams in the coming week.

Before I quit, I made a custom keylogger file that would appear like a notepad file when you click on it, it would show you the text but in the background it would install discreetly and send in the information to my email. And then I just deleted it, so no one could comment about it to inform each other so they couldn't reinstall their OS.

I then screened the information for the people who kept copying my stuff, sent them detailed emails of them viewing porn sites along with screenshots and time and a few threats before discarding my email, I told them I knew where they lived and who they were along with their family and they managed to offend to the wrong person. Off course I had their passwords and everything, I even used one guys Netflix account for six months.

I did nothing you know, just a little lesson to them. I don't mind people copying my stuff, since I did it for free anyway but I wanted the popularity and they had to give me credit in bold.

*laughs* It can be pretty funny indeed! \(^^)/

I remember seeing some chapters of mangas with all pages duplicated as well... Which was really bothersome to read through, but must've been funny to the translators~

Though it is kinda curious as to why they make a new "chapter" whenever you make an edit... Edits shouldn't trigger RSS feed I think, unless you're working on a wiki-like site, like Baka-tsuki.

    ... Wow!!!!!!!

1 million views, really... If you had tried monetizing it, you could be living off of it right now I think... Quite sad that you lost the backup and ended up losing it... Hooray for studying for exams though! >.<

Your keylogger file was a nice finishing touch~

I'm always amazed by the things you do, you have the best stories to share! xD

I agree with not harming them though, just getting the credits is more than enough... A shame people that copy those things never bother with that.

    *grumbles about the like limit*

I remembered one of the first translated web-novels I read Included the raw below the translated lines.
I would have dropped if the story was not good ( to me at that time).

    How so?
