im in tianjin. shanghai is SHIT. but a lot of people there speak english. hide your stuff, and dont go to poor districts alone.
open google translate and use your keyboard's speech to text. Machine translation is your best friend here.
Shanghai is shit? How dare you?!! Well, it doesn't really trigger Ai-chan lol Ai-chan only goes to Shanghai once in a blue moon for Shanghai Fashion Week and for visiting Waiwai. Ai-chan's company HQ is in Taipei but Ai-chan works for a Japanese modelling studio in Japan.
You don't need Chinese in Shanghai. Other places, yes, but you can get on fine without a word of it. I managed to live there for a year and never manage to pick up the language
If it wasn't for the horrible air pollution, I could happily live in Shanghai. Its metro is great, you can get by with English. You can buy almost anything, the French concession is romantic, no downsides! Except the pollution. Sometimes, that doesn't work. I spent a good 5 minutes trying to get the waiter to get me the bill for the meal using my translator. Little did I know all I had to say was "cheque"....
shanghai, beijing and shenzhen are like pits full of nightmares. people just pushing to get inside the city to earn any small amount of money, ignoring any common sense and make chaos of it. its horrible~. and Im in TangGu district in Tianjin, where every day is street fish market day swamped with dog shit, sea water that spilled from the boxes from the fresh catch, and smelly fish juices (crabs, shrimps, etc.) is Taipei fun? anything interesting to see? @Nyanko i have always been lucky and not have been hit by air pollution, even in beijing. hmm.. weird <.< (though in all honesty almost every week in Zibo was a hide your face day)
hmm from the respond seem only need english oh also you can try communicate using gesture language hehehe experience is harsh lesson~
Yolo it or download a translation app thing Idk it shanghai is like new york or tokyo (like a main tourist place) if so theres a high chance there'll be English speakers around so you'll be fine
This is true. I went to visit Shanghai for a summer (went around several East Asian countries ie. Japan, S Korea, China) and have seen the looks some people give you in the poorer areas. But who knows, maybe it's cause I'm black.
Easiest is just to say, "Laoban, fapiao!" (Boss, gimme the bloody bill!) Hum, interesting... there are parks there, the water slides over there and a large otaku market right over there. Hum, it's hard to give suggestion, it's just a place Ai-chan call home away from home. There are some interesting places Ai-chan went to with my friends, but Ai-chan can't recall from the top of my head. Are you interested in going to Taipei?
im building a trip plan, which places to visit in january. and taipei is the closest to me besides n.korea XD
I was there over the winter of 2013-14. Anyone who knows China would know that was peak smog for eastern china, the very smog which got the government thinking, "hey maybe this IS a problem?". Maybe it has polluted my image of the city? Edit: heres a picture of Shanghai during the time I was there So pretty~~
ah i was this year. 2017-2018. they implemented new laws in regards to pollution during winter. especially so for winter holidays so it feels better
